Flying Emirates Australia to Europe, Dubai is a good place to stop for a break.
I chose this hotel because I wanted to stay where there was still a sense of the old Dubai left. I stayed 2 nights at the Ambassador Hotel in the Al Fahidi District.
This is one of the first hotels build in the old area. It is not glitz and glamour, or an architectural masterpiece, or outrageously expensive. It was clean, quiet, slept well, tea/coffee, A/C and TV. It did the job for a short stay and was really quite good.
I arrived at midnight, friendly staff, hotel 24 hour desk.
My room had a balcony with glimpses of Dubai Creek and the docks in the distance.
Breakfast was an Indian affair, decorated likewise, this is an Indian Hotel catering I think mostly to Indian guests. Typical Indian breakfast, lots of staff, lots of bain marie’s full of curries, samosas etc. Bit much for my stomach after a long flight asked for poached eggs and toast and they kindly cooked it for me.
Hotel is 5-minute walk to Dubai Creek. There is a lovely promenade along the waterway full of little restaurants and markets. ATM’s and convenience stores close by as well.
Really lovely first thing in the morning walk to Dubai Creek and go for a ride on the flat bottomed boats called Abra's, a great way to see Dubai.
The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding and the Dubai Museum are an easy walk as well.
Duba's Metro is state of the art transport, clean & easy to use. Al Ghubaiba is 5 minutes walk, great way to get around the city and will take you straight into the airport.
Easy stay…. I got to see quite a lot of Dubai in the small time I was there.
There is a lovely man on the front door. I’m sorry I don’t know his name, he was so helpful when I wanted to go somewhere, pointed me in the right direction.
