To start off with the positives, the location is pretty spot on and it's reasonably priced, but that's about where it ends. We did not have a great experience.

Before arriving we had a few questions for the hotel, in particular with respect to the Florence ZTL. We tried to call but the number in the website did not work and no one replied to our emails.

When we arrived the member of staff in reception did not speak a word of English (which sounds a tad arrogant, given we were in Italy, however in a city with so many international visitors you'd expect enough to be able to communicate that you have a booking). The hotel advertises parking, which it does not have, instead they direct you to a local parking garage that costs 25 euros a night. They send a valet to collect your car. In our case this person was very careless (I went with him so I could see where the car was taken). On our way to the garage he managed to hit a cyclist (thankfully no injuries!) which left a nice big scratch on my car.

In addition to this we had requested a twin room upon booking which we were not given. The breakfast was very very basic, and the coffee they served was closer to dish water than coffee!
Finally it seemed to be very minimally staffed, and the ones we did interact with did not really seem to care.

Based in my experience, I would definately treat this place as a last resort.

The only good thing is location - few minutes walk to the Cathedral and clean room, large and clean bathroom with all facilities. Breakfast - disappointing. Wifi - does not even exist, I think. Staff not even OK.

My friend and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and left it very disappointed. First, it was hard to get there by the public transport (moreover, roads were beeing repared, which made it all worse). But we must admit, that the location of the hotel is very close to the center and you don't need a transport while staying there.
When we arrived at the hotel, no one was at the reception. We rang the bell twice, after what a lady with very unhappy face came out and didn't even greet us. She asked what did we want and registered us, gave us the key without any further instructions or information.
After few occasions we realised that nobody in this hotel cares about you. For example: our door wasn't opening, which happened because of the arror in the system, but we heard the second receptionist mambling and blaming us for that. Moreover nobody really fixed that door and we couldn't use el.key.
When we asked for advices how to get to some points, or where to find the nearest shop, the answer was: "Why do you need it?".
The breakfast was pretty poor (only sweet food and not fresh). Once the teapot was absolutely cold and there was no clean table to sit at (no one cleaned it after other guests).
Reception is not 24h, but works only till 1 a.m. You are not allowed to keep food or drinks in the fridge in the room, or wash your (any!) clothes.
Last, but not the least - there is no wi-fi in the rooms. It works only at the reception.
On a good side - the room and the toilet were pretty clean and cosy.
We think that the hotel could be nice place to stay at, if not the attitude of the staff.

There are only few things that can make you to choose this hotel:
- the location - 10 minutes walk to the Dome
- the room which is very large - the rooms with garden view are quieter
- the bathroom - large and clean
The others travelers reviews regarding the unprofessional staff attitude, the poor breakfast, the wifi (which is not working at all) are very accurate and we experienced them all during our five days stay. I would add that the room (and bathroom especially) are very cold in October.

Room tip: good location

From the outside the hotel doesn't look much and it doesn't get any better on the inside.

We were greeted with an empty reception in what seemed to be a nice quaint hallway with period features. A member of staff came along (after ringing the bell 2/3 times) we were checked in to a room on the first floor, we were told that the stairs were on the left and there was no elevator. Unfortunately we had to manage our heavy suitcases up the stairs ourselves as the member of staff had vanished after checking us in.

Once in the room we found that the air con was controlled from the downstairs reception and set to a temperature 19 degrees which we were unable to change. Also we were told that the wifi was broken and would not be on for the duration of our stay. When looking at connecting to wifi, the Il Duca hotel appeared.

The lack of customer service from the staff was appalling, everything seemed like an effort or that we were asking for things way beyond their capabilities. When in fact they were simple requests.

The staff did not wear any kind of uniform or identification so we did not know who we were talking to.

The hotel itself is a little run down but has potential to be something great in the right hands. It's within walking distance to the city centre and all of the tourist attractions, the prices a reasonably cheap and they do have a bar / small dining area as well as a courtyard garden.

Unfortunately for the Il Duca, this is a hotel that I will not be staying at again.
