he visited once US, and his sculptures were so unusual, so modern that the guys from Customs said he actually intends to pass the border with metals without paying the taxes, there were unable to see the sculptures
he offered his "atelier" to Romania, but the communist government declined the offer, saying that his work is not art, beeing too decadent
just two moments which explain why his sculptures are so modern, even now, after one century; to that moment, they were beyond their times
finally he left all his works to France, where he worked for decades, with a single condition - to maintain all the pieces, exactly how he left them, in the same positions, each one related to the other
it's so nice to see so many masterpieces, all together, in the same place, to see his working place
a must to see, definitely
This intimate hard to find museum in Paris is in the former house and garden of the sculptor Brancusi
L' Atelier Brancusi is a free attraction next to Centre Pompidou and a very good side attraction for anyone with an interest in Brancusi or art/sculptures in general. Opening hours are 2-6pm daily (closed Tuesdays).
Here you find a recreation of Roman sculptor Constantin Brancusi's studio and workshop upon the time of his death in 1957. There are numerous sculptures on display including several renditions of his famous 'Bird In Space' sculpture, amongst numerous other provocative an intriguing works to view and enjoy.
There was also an interesting Mihal Olos exhibition being held at the time of our visit. We enjoyed the artworks being displayed, finding them to complement the Brancusi works nicely.
We were quite pleased with our return visit to L' Atelier Brancusi. This is a very good complement to visits to Centre Pompidou, especially with the attraction being free to visit.
Brancussi is a great sculptor (in my opinion) and the recreation of his workshop is very nicely done. There are many of his sculptures presented as he wanted to.
It is a hidden gem in plain sight. It is on the same square as the centre pompidou. And surprisingly it is completely free.
Definitely spend 30 mins or more here if you are going to the centre pompidou.
A fabulous must see! Requiring only a matter of minutes to walk around, as it is a collection of works set out as if in Brancusi's studio, it should not be missed. There are benches around the side of the room to sit on and draw from, or meditate-while you look in on the set up, screened off by glass walls. A fabulous Paris highlight if you're caught short on time and don't have the energy to tackle the 'big' museums.
Stopped here after an incredible three hours at the Pompidou. The studio is a recreation of the Romanian artist's Paris working spaces - the envy of artists living and past, I'd venture to say. it's free and its hours are fairly short so check the web for opening times. If you are already at the Pompidou, this is a must do. If you aren't and want to be in awe of this artist's space, make it a point to visit. I am a huge fan of visiting studios, having art as a hobby, So perhaps I was predisposed to visiting, but it's worth a visit if you are in the area.
