Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I am lucky enough to live near this cafe and visit regularly with my baby daughter. The food and drinks are excellent with a varied selection at reasonable (for London) prices. The staff are all charming and the venue is very spacious and well laid...out. Perfect for wheelchair users or those with buggies. Despite what a previous reviewer said, the parents visiting with children are in the minority and in my experience very considerate of other people using the cafe.More

Great salads and soups, discount for staff, my only problem is that You have to pay extra for a bit of bread to go with the soup. I often get soup from Love walk cafe where you get two slices of toast and a large...soup for less than £4. Here it is £4 for a large soup without bread. I'm just saying, a slice of bread isn't much to ask for !More

An amazing cafe, with wonderful, helpful and accommodating staff. I am in a wheelchair and they were so quick to do all they could to help. The menu changes daily so everything is always really fresh. Excellent value for money. Have been satisfied every time.

My favourite local coffee shop. A pre-work coffee here always improves my day. Lovely atmosphere, cheerful friendly staff, and (of course) good coffee.

Great café with a small selection of good light food, sandwiches, soup, salads, cakes. Always with gluten free and healthy options. Good coffee. Tables outside for sunny days. The best part is the staff who are fantastic baristas and provide top class customer service.

The coffee and service is absolutely first class at the Ortus. They use a local coffee roastery and have highly skilled barista’s who have wonderful customer service. The venue itself is light and airy and has good Wi-fi. I’ll go back regularly and would encourage...you too!More

The cafe is a little haven in the grounds of the Maudsley Hospital so read peaceful, relaxed and a sense of community. They have a great range of food whether for lunch, something to have with your coffee, or the kind of healthy nibbles you...don’t always find. If there’s sun sit outside or grab one of the tables or the staging inside. Great service.More

Part of the Maudsley Hospital training centre for NHS staff. Lovely building, which is light and airy. Lasagne was average and rather dry. Good coffee and cake. Peaceful setting with lovely trees round it.

This place is on of the best coffees you can try. We frequently come for starting the day, and have a coffee. John and the staff from this coffee, make the starting day just great. The coffee is very nice, beans are fresh and tasty....I do recommend to join this cafe and try out all the options they offer for coffee, lunch and snack time.More

For us, a convenient neighbourhood cafe, about 200 yards from home. We have eaten here a number of times. Food: very fresh, healthy salads, with "health oriented" drinks available. Display is a little odd - I always get thrown by what is available at what...price - but that said, the price when totted up always seems pretty sensible. Ambience: pleasant light airy. Full of intelligent young medical people. Not intimate - more utilitarian. Location: handy if you are near Denmark Hill station and don't fancy the Phoenix or the George Canning with their more pub ambience. Recommendation: yes - we will be back.More

Popped into this pleasant-looking café for a coffee and something to eat at lunchtime a couple of days ago. The coffee was good, and the staff were friendly, however, the sandwiches were all neatly piled up on the top of the counter thus enabling everyone...in the (long and slow moving) queue to breathe on them, or worse. Personally, I find this very off-putting and unhygienic. Returned later that afternoon for a coffee, and couldn’t get out of there fast enough. There seemed to be a few mothers congregated in the outside area, with their children (I think there is a junior school nearby). These mothers appeared to be completely oblivious to the fact that their children were running around and screaming – honestly it was deafening. I am at a loss to understand why the staff allow/tolerate this unbelievably unsociable behaviour, which makes Ortus thoroughly unpleasant for other customers. This café is actually surrounded by people trying to work too – I would be seeking employment and coffee elsewhere!!More
