Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I travel to Pittsburgh often for work and have stayed at many hotels in the area. The only thing consistent with my travels to the Burgh is the Kimpton Monaco. Do yourself a favor and do not stay here unless you want the following: Dirty rooms - hairs and stains all over. Multiple rooms with hairs in the shower, etc. Stains on lamp shades, carpet, etc. Service - Or Lack Ofd. if you bring up an issue with the staff. it will not be resolved. Over billing - expect charges that you didn’t use or agree too. Mike D. should realize it’s time for new leadership at this hotel. There is NO reason for this property to be so poorly run. Other Kimpton’s are run well.

Hello, Lilabernese - Thank you for the comments about your stay with us. I certainly apologize if there were cleanliness issues with your room and am also disappointed to hear that you do not feel that your concerns were resolved when speaking with us. If you would like to discuss further, please feel free to contact me directly. I'm unsure as to your room number and with whom you spoke previously but would like to follow-up internally, as well. The valet parking is pricey but so useful in the city! The complimentary coffee and tea in the morning was a generous touch. Note to self- the hotel offers brunch on a Sunday, at 8:30 and restaurants/coffee shops are either closed for the day or opening at 9:00. Our early morning departure meant no breakfast:) The bed was good although the pillows were really bad (soft), the shower was fab and the location served us well. Service overall was also good. We enjoyed the offer of amenities available should we have forgotten any.

No free drinking water is provided: none in the room nor a fountain. Bottled water is charged at 5 dollars per small bottle! Come on… ridiculous. Nice decor and nice beds are not so impressive when basics like water are missing!

Hello, P7811GZjesses - Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about your recent stay with us. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed our decor and beds but am sorry that the lack of free bottled water impacted your stay. We do have a complimentary water station in our lobby during select hours, as well as complimentary bottled water, beer and a selection of wines at our evening Social Hour every day between 5pm-6pm. We hope that you'll think of us the next time that you're in Pittsburgh. Best, Rob Mallinger General Manager

Kimpton Hotel Monaco is in an old city building in the heart of Downtown Pittsburg. We loved the location - very walkable to restaurants, Andy Warhol museum, & sports arenas/stadiums. We stayed 2 nights and were very happy with our choice. A complementary cocktail hour in the lobby both evenings, a great restaurant, The Commoner, connected to the lobby, and a very comfortable room. We loved the bird/aviary theme throughout the hotel. It was our first experience with Kimpton Hotels as well as Pittsburg and we were not disappointed with either. We would definitely recommend friends & family stay here if ever in Pittsburg. We'll be back too!

First time in Pittsburgh and the Hotel Monaco was an excellent choice for my 3 nights in the city, it's a super hotel in a great location, the rooms are gorgeous, the staff are wonderful and I really enjoyed my stay. Arrived late in the evening from London on the British Airways flight , I was checked in promptly and allocated a room on the 8th floor which was also a upgrade and it was lovely. As the hotel bar was about to close, reception pointed me to the Tap Room at the William Penn hotel next store for a night cap as it's open until 1 , it was a good recommendation and I appreciated it . The room was just amazing , the bed was super comfortable with the best hotel pillows I have slept on in a long time and the attention to detail was spot on. Everything seemed tailor made and in keeping with what you would expect from a Kimpton. From the birdcage light to the wallpapered closet with robes and an umbrella and the superb blackout curtains, it was all spotlessly clean and well looked after. It was a haven of tranquility and I slept very well. The bathroom was bigger than my kitchen at home and I loved the free standing tub and there was also a shower. The towels were soft and the shower gels and shampoo smelt very luxurious, plenty of counter space for all your toiletries - perfect. Morning coffee was available on the mezzanine level and it was also home to the wine hour ( beer & waters too) between 5-6 every day with some complimentary nibbles too, a nice chance to met fellow guests and chat to the staff - my wine glass was topped up before they cleared away at 6 which was sweet of them. Everything is walkable from the hotel and the area felt perfectly safe at night. The staff were all amazing and are a credit to the hotel, I cannot recommend the hotel enough.

The décor in this hotel was some of the best I've ever seen. I loved the green headboards, the yellow hound's-tooth wall in the bathroom and matching black hounds- tooth curtains in the room, the green/blue mirror and matching color chair, the bedside table - everything. The hallways were beautiful floral. It really made you feel like you were in a luxury home and not a hotel. The lobby was also attractive. The lighting was wonderful. I loved that it wasn't stark and bright like most hotels. You could dim it to the level you wanted. The beds seemed fairly new and were comfortable. The pillows were great because they were not limp but not overstuffed or too firm like a lot of hotel pillows. The room was quiet and cozy. Temperature control worked well. I loved the toiletries provided in the shower. They smelled divine and were luxurious. I loved the birdcage lampshade. Just everything was decorated perfectly. The attention to detail was amazing. I felt so relaxed at this hotel. Would definitely stay again. Front desk very responsive. We asked for extra blankets and they were delivered immediately. VERY nice hotel!

I went here with my brother as the last stop on a long road trip, and it was a great place to stop. It's a very luxurious place to be, and a far cry from the Hyatt Places we'd been staying in. We were greeted with glasses of wine (though we had to self park in a garage about a block away since the valet was full). It's in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, which is a great area in its own right, and walking around is easy and enjoyable. Rooms were well appointed, quiet, and comfortable. There is a rooftop hangout area/bar, but we didn't end up going. You do have to pay for all of your meals - I think breakfast at least should be complimentary at this price point. No pool either, but that's not uncommon for a hotel in an old downtown area. Overall, it's a comfortable, luxurious hotel.

Kimpton Hotels are generally stylish. The decor here is a bit off-putting/unattractive. Housekeeping did a decent job and our room was a good size and comfortable. There is no evening turn down service. Particularly chintzy is the fact that if you ask for a bottle of water there is a $5 charge.

What a great hotel. From the moment we arrived we were made welcome by the reception staff, the hotel decor was fantastic throughout. All parts of the hotel were clean, our room, a king corner room was spotlessly clean and made up on a daily basis by the housekeeping staff. The bed was so comfy, lots of power sockets around the room. Complementary tea and coffee was available in a morning. Complementary alcoholic drinks were served between 5 &6pm each evening by the staff in the lounge area. A great touch to meet other residents in a relaxed atmosphere. We stayed at the Pittsburgh Kimpton Hotel for 8 nights and could have stayed for longer.
