We found ourselves stuck in Bethel after a cancelled Alaska air flight and were told this was the best of a poor lot of hotels in Bethel. The place is very run down and under construction. The room was dingy with lots of signs of wear and tear. At $75 a night it would be OK in a pinch, but our $219 price (for two double beds) was a real rip-off.
We hadn't been here in a couple years. Had a lousy experience last time with staff that didn't seem to give a rip. But, this time.... Things maybe improving at this hotel. New management seems very committed to customer service and improving things. The VIP Restaurant vacated the property but the current new management is installing their own restaurant (not done yet). Spoke with this mgr as we set up our conference. Seems very committed to cleanliness and customer service. NOT what we had gotten used to at this property thru the years so was a nice refreshing change of pace. Keep it up. I look forward to seeing how far you've improved when we come back next year.
There were 10 of us traveling for business, but they only had nine rooms in the newer section. The older section was so bad two of us had to share a room. The room in the older section had 2 single beds and no table or chair to work on. Scary to be in a building by yourself. They say they will remodel to put refrigerators and microwaves in each room on the rop floor and full kitchens on the bottom floor for those wanting longer stays. Now there is a communal kitchen, but you have to go to the other building for a microwave. Water has lots of rust and is sometimes brown, so bring your own drinking water. The outter sun room in each room was nice with a table and couch.
Stayed here while hosting an event. There were some issues. Firstly, the guest rooms; we reserved 3 rooms. Upon arrival were told they'd had a busy night and no rooms ready yet. So we set up the event in the conference room then hung out in the restaurant for a few hours. Guest rooms still not ready by event start, so we left our luggage in storage and hosted the event in the clothes we arrived in. Guest rooms "ready" by the time event ended around 10:30 pm. when one of my coworkers opened his room the picture attached shows what he found - his room was far from cleaned and habitable. Spent an hour with the front desk while they tried to call in a housekeeper (who never showed). Front desk said our 3 rooms were the only rooms that had private bathrooms so couldn't switch him to another room! Rooms without private baths? What is this, a dormitory? Secondly, the event room. Overall, it was ok though we spent probably a half hour cleaning a thick layer of dust off the floor and making it presentable. The wireless internet wasn't very cooperative so one of my coworkers had to hoof it down the street a ways (a mile maybe) to the public library to actually print anything out. There is a great Asian restaurant attached to this facility. Food and service there is very good!…
