We liked Maya so much in 2022 that we went again for 7 days on a Luxury Escapes package. It really is a lovely property, centrally located on the beach in the best part of Sanur, architecture design and decoration that provides an imposing and stately interpretation of modern Bali style, a beautifully sheltered pool area and a truly unique feature in a bar aptly named the Treebar. It even has a huge panoramic lawn area on the roof - well worth a walk for a better perspective on the surrounds. But perhaps its greatest asset is its highly trained, motivated and personable staff. The presentation and servicing of our Impressive Nest Suite (Rm 223) was impeccable, timely and unobtrusive - a credit to the room staff. The same could be said for all parts of the property. The spa had a real 'zen' quality and the massage experience was beyond excellent - thanks to the expert and gracious therapists. In fact, Sri provided perhaps the best leg massage I have ever had. Breakfast at Mayasari is a real treat, dare I say the best in Bali! Generous proportions, made to order, variety to suit all, fresh, coffee befitting a barista at any fine restaurant in the world, and the service, exemplified by Rani and Rahayu, added a wonderful personal touch to the whole experience. The distinctive Tree Bar is the absolute pinnacle in terms of the sunset cocktail experience as you sit perched high among the trees overlooking the beach, and it also has nightly musical entertainment at ground level ranging from blues, to pop to country. Pure Bali bliss aside from the odd smoker or vaper. The only area that we did not find outstanding was the menu variety and quality offered as part of the three course half-board deal, a somewhat surprising contrast to the excellence of breakfast. With some exceptions, eg beautiful arancini, we could not find enough really attractive options to keep us enthusiastic for 7 days. We thought perhaps the hotel could better offer only two courses but open up more menu options and generally improve the food quality, or limit the number of meals in the package to allow guests to experience some of the other attractive restaurants in the area. The ala carte menu at the Japanese restaurant seemed really nice, but again the package 3 course meal was less appealing. If this is fixed, the place is perfect!

After a stay in Ubud we spent 6 nights at the Hotel Maya Sanur, in a room with a garden view. When we arrived, our room wasn't ready yet and so we were recommended a small air-conditioned restaurant in front of the hotel to while we waited. The restaurant belonged to the hotel. During our first conversation with the waiter there, we were asked about food intolerance. We were shortly introduced to Ms. Yola Kadek, who asked for the food allergy documents I had brought with me from the Charité Berlin. Ms. Kadek always asked about my well-being throughout the entire time. The chefs from both restaurants discussed their recommendations with me. Whether at breakfast or in the evening, the service staff were always there and looked after us very well. I am very grateful for this care and kindness. I had a lot of concerns about the food before the trip. But I was able to enjoy and relax without any difficulties. The entire service team is top notch. The bar and service staff are very communicative and friendly, as are all the hotel staff. Everywhere this cleanliness and warm atmosphere. A perfect oasis of well-being. Food and drinks were always replenished very quickly in the restaurant. And the tables were always cleaned quickly for the next guests. We would especially like to thank Ms. Yola Kadek and Mr. Cheff Chandra Endru. So warm and service-oriented, always available and extremely polite. Many thanks to the entire hotel team for a special holiday in this beautiful paradise. Kind regards Jochen and Renate Schubert

I have stayed at many resorts (some high end ) throughout Sanur and the Maya has definitely topped all of them- my ultimate no1 resort!! I cannot speak highly enough of the staff here. Nothing is too much for them and they will bend over backwards to make sure you are well looked after. Unfortunately my sister and I have been unwell (my sister had spent 5 days in the Bali Mandara Hospital prior to coming here) and since our arrival the staff have made everything possible for her to be as comfortable as possible. The care and comfort they have given has been greatly appreciated!! The massages here at the Maya are sublime, and these ladies are amazing at their craft! The spa area is relaxing and very comfortable. They have some lovely products for sale- I bought some lovely 100% pure essential oils. The restaurants cater well for all sorts of cuisines. They even have a classy Japanese restaurant, Kuu, front of house. The Tree Bar has regular live entertainment. The pool area has lots of daybeds, some shaded, some not- catering for everyone’s pool preferences. The Maya has surpassed my expectations, and more!! Terima Kasih

I have to say I was somewhat disappointed with the Maya Sanur, especially having read all the positive reviews Firstly, the good. Our room was a 3rd floor Nest Room. The room was excellent, with very clean and modern facilities and very comfortable. The staff were fabulous, very friendly and helpful. Location is great, right on the beach front board walk. Food was very good. What I didn't like so much, and this is very much down to personal preferences. I found the resort very enclosed, being set on a narrow block with little garden or open space. The weather, while out of Maya's control, was very humid, and the building layout offered little airflow exacerbating the humidity. The lobby design is unwelcoming and stiffling, with no air conditioning, fans or any airflow. The pools were, for me, the most disappointing aspect. The main pool, the Horison pool, was 1.2m deep for the entire pool. Too shallow for my liking, and as a result, too warm. The Lagoon pool, that is narrow and runs almost the length of the propert seemed to be only used by the rooms that opened up on to it, so not sure if it was for general use. But it too was only 1.2m deep. A so called family pool, also shallow, was ticked away in an obscure corner of the property. I prefer resorts set on more open grounds and larger pools with varying depth. As such, I would not recommend Maya Sanur.

The rooms at Maya are beautiful and we cannot say anything negative. They are clean, comfortable and well set out. The breakfast is amazing, with lots of choices and staff going out of their way to look after you. As for the resort, it definitely wasn’t my style. I found it hot, with reception surrounded by grey walls with no fans. The pool was very shallow and not to my liking. I prefer the lush gardens of many other resorts in the area. The lunch/dinner offers were great but I won’t be returning to Maya. This is my first time in Sanur and got swayed by a Luxury Escapes deal, but I didn’t do enough research.

A friend who used to live in Bali recommended the property, away from the craziness of Seminyak. Best decision ever. Spent my first four nights on Bali at this incredibly beautiful resort. The place, location, staff and service are five star! It’s a boutique hotel, not like the neighbouring Hyatt or Intercontinental. So you receive personalized service. I loved all the art and design of the place. The staff have such heart. They organized everything for me. Travelling solo, that gave me such peace of mind. Special mentions: Seva at the restaurant. Her smile alone is a gift. Ibu at the spa. Not only did I have the best spa treatment ever, she helped organize so robes and bags as gifts for my family at home. Leli at the front desk. She was so kind and conscious that I was travelling alone. Gave the best advice. She helped me organize my snorkeling trip to Nusa Penida and made it fit my requests. And Endru, while new at the Tree Bar, has such a fun nature, helping elevate the experience. Thank you all for making my first days on my first visit to Bali so perfect.

My recent stay at Maya Hotel Sanur was marred by an unpleasant encounter with the security personnel at the entrance gate. Despite being a repeat guest, I found myself subjected to unnecessary scrutiny and inconvenience every time I entered the premises. The security personnel's insistence on checking my car's trunk, despite my frequent visits to the hotel, made me feel unwelcome and suspected. It not only wasted my time but also cast a shadow over the overall experience of staying at the hotel. While I understand the importance of security measures, the manner in which it was executed left much to be desired. It's disheartening to feel like a potential threat rather than a valued customer. The basement car park also has a dark narrow turn and this is dangerous for the car to make sharp turn either to go down or go up. I hope the management addresses this issue promptly to ensure that all guests feel welcomed and respected during their stay.
