As part of a group tour of Southern italy, we arrived in Bari and stayed at the only 5 star hotel in Bari-the iH hotels Bari Grande delle Nazioni, situated conveniently on the Lungomare. it was a nice sized hotel with a large lobby. The room I received was large, clean, spacious with a lot of natural light and high ceilings. The floor was wood, no carpets anywhere. The decor is somewhat dated but functional. It came with a large double bed, not too soft and there was a nice sized wide screen TV to view opposite the bed. . On the bed, there was a packet containing a robe and slippers. The bathroom is spacious, a lot of natural light and a toilet, bidet. and a shower with good water pressure. There was a large free standing closet [there are no built in closets in Italy] and in terms of temperature control, the room was comfortable. [This could be adjusted] A safe is in the bottom of the closet. Full mini bar. Room service was available if so desired and there was an electric coffee pot and adequate coffee and tea service but this lacked stirrers of any kind and powdered cream. You had to drink coffee black.[Caveat: clean the electric coffee pot out before you decide to use it.] Snacks were available for purchase. Steps are not clearly marked throughout the hotel and bannisters are at a minimum so one must be careful when walking. The floors are marble and one step is not clearly discernable from the next. Walk carefully, a fall could ruin your vacation. The breakfast was located on the 6th floor and was delicious with many choices-fresh fruit, croissants, breads of many kinds, prosciutto, fresh cheeses, etc. We had dinner with the group at this hotel since it was our first night there and the food and wine choices were superb-the appetizer we had was a penne pasta al dente peppered with cherry tomatoes and a tangy sauce. The entree was roasted chicken over potatoes with gravy. The Puglian wines were excellent. Overall, it was a very nice stay and i would recommend and return.

It was our first time in Bari and we very much enjoyed it. The staff at the reception was very helpful, and made some good recommendations on restaurants the few times we asked. The ambience and decoration was a bit eclectic. The location was excelent, just across from the beach, and a nice walk away from the historic sites. We even ran into a well known CNN personality. The food at the restaurant was OK, but the service was not optimal. We would stay again if we ever came back to Bari.

Bari is brilliant... but please don't tell anyone! Just a couple of hours by train from Naples through the most lush olive orchards, vineyards and vegetable garden every seen in Italy. Bari is the perfect spot to visit Alberobello (Trulli houses), Ostuni (the white city) and Posignano (by the sea)... and there are even more places that we missed! Olive trees planted by the Romans no less! Friendly people. Great staff at the hotel who make excellent recommendations to suit your needs! See PlacenPeople.com for tours. Bari is exciting and the Old Town beautiful. Excellent restaurants although you have to adjust to "bars versus restaurants" but I'm sure it all makes sense to the locals. Ferris wheel outside our window did not detract from the experience. Highly recommended!

The stay was fine but we were charged nearly double the rate confirmed via email. I contacted the hotel but they just said that rate was incorrect. The hotel was clean and breakfast was good but I could not recommend based on my experience.

Hotel located just South of Old City convenient and within walking distance. Room was fine, however a little worn. Very friendly staff. Breakfast area excellent with ocean view. Many things to choose from, scrambled eggs to soggy for taste.

Some of the reviews are a bit negative but I guess if you disliked the slightly quirky bedroom decor then that probably impacts your feelings towards the hotel (they do not hide it on their website so you know what you will be getting). The lobby was nice and cool which with the hot temperatures there was particularly welcome on our arrival or upon return from a trip. The front desk were always helpful and spoke good English and gave a couple of good restaurant recommendations. The breakfast was adequate and once I discovered they made coffee to order (the coffee on the buffet counter was not great) then I was generally happy with the good choices available from pastries/cakes/cereals/scrambled egg/croissants/fresh fruit etc. The restaurant is located on the top floor and offers a beautiful view of the seafront and town. The hotel is in a lovely position and fairly handy for the old town (15 min walk) and Centrale station (20 mins walk) - we did trips by train from there to Monopoli and Matera and back to the airport. The coaches (bus) to Alberobello (trulli village) run from there as well about every hour. The roof top terrace and (heated) pool is lovely for a couple of hours pre dinner after a long days sightseeing. We were here a week and even at the end of this time we still liked the hotel which I take as a good sign!

This hotel was perfect for us, we stayed for a week using it as a base to visit so many beautiful towns in the region. The location is great being right on the seafront, a 20 minute walk from the old town and a 15 minute walk from the train station. It was so hot while we were there so the rooftop pool was very welcome for a quick dip when we got back from our excursions. Yes, the furnishings in our room were quirky, but we liked them (describing them to a friend as being like Barbie’s Dream house but in Ken colours) and we were very comfortable. The housekeeping was excellent, everything was spotless. The water pressure and temperature consistency of the shower were really good (often not the case in large hotels we have stayed in) We booked on a bed & breakfast basis and enjoyed the breakfast very much, once we’d settled on what we liked. The scrambled eggs were not hot, barely warm so we gave those swerve after trying them once but there were plenty of other choices. The fruit was particularly attractive with a huge choice. Several days there were beautiful fresh figs, and always the most luscious grapes. There was the usual selection of sweet pastries and cakes that are typically Italian but also several cold meats, smoked salmon, cheeses and salads. There was always the traditional Focaccia Barese on offer, which was lovely. My husband was not impressed with the coffee that was available on the buffet but you could request a coffee to be made to order. The hot water on the buffet to make the tea, was not sufficiently hot to make a decent drink but after the first day I asked for a teapot of boiling water every time which was readily supplied. The English Breakfast teabags didn’t seem to be replenished after the first couple of days, thank goodness for my emergency supply of Yorkshire teabags (Yes, I am that person! Better to be prepared than moan about something easily fixed) Reading some other reviews, yes the corridors were a bit gloomy but not in them long. We only used the rooftop restaurant once (apart from breakfast) during our stay, on the first day to have a drink as we arrived before the check in time and thought it well priced. All in all, I thought this a fabulous hotel which I would recommend.

This hotel was very nice. Our room was a "Panorama room" and had a great balcony and view of Lungomare street along the harbor. Too bad it was so hot that we couldn't enjoy the balcony but it was handy to be able to dry clothes very fast! But it was fun watching all the people walking by in the evening along the waterfront. There were fireworks at midnight on Thursday and Friday of our visit which must have been for a wedding celebration or something else. The decor was super modern which may not be to everyone's liking. We didn't particularly like the shower with no door and glass on 3 sides and somewhat frosted panes. Besides giving you no privacy the shower leaked and we found that taking a cool shower raised the temperature of the room considerably. Twice we had to call for help to get the air conditioning back to normal though we did spend one hot night after showering late. The king sized bed was comfy and had a pull down comforter/duvet with a sheet underneath so we didn't have to tear apart the bed as we did in most hotels on this trip in Europe. There was a nice breakfast though the servers were not in a hurry to get our cappuccino order. Also there were watery eggs and fatty bacon but the rest was very good and you have a lovely panoramic view on the 6th floor whether you sit inside (nice air conditioning!) or outside in the heat and wind. Yes, the halls are dark and warm which someone else commented on but this wasn't too bad. We found a good little restaurant nearby on the street to the right of the building as you face the hotel. It's called "Vavi Group" and also has an ice cream place also named "Vavi" across the street from it. It was an easy sunny walk to the old town though we did hop on a Park and Ride bus to get back since it was so hot. We didn't even have to pay though I think it's supposed to be 30 cents but the driver didn't seem to care. That bus stopped right before the hotel at the little park. The hotel called a taxi for us for the airport. They give you the taxi's number and estimated time of arrival at the hotel which was helpful. The hotel's name is a little confusing since it's so long but most people just called it the "Nazioni" hotel on Lungomare.

Staying here for 2 nights at €330 per night. The room is dated. It is like being back in the 70's. The service is shocking. Trying to get a drink at the downstairs bar is nearly impossible. There just isn't any staff to take care of the customers. After dinner I went up to the 6th floor restaurant and asked for a cognac and coffee. They have NO idea what a cognac is!! Absolutely shocking. 1 star at best.
