A few months prior to my trip I booked a desert trip for my family of 4 that includes my 9 and 6 year old daughters. I wanted a trip that would fit in between my stays in Djerba and Monastir. After doing a bit of research I came upon a little company called Caravane du Sahara that I decided to take a chance on. It had a few reviews written online (mostly in French) and is locally run. I made contact through WhatsApp and told Ali what I was looking to do. He created a plan and offered a price and that was reasonable. When it was time for the trip to happen my family was met at our hotel on time by our driver and guide with a Jeep that was in very good condition. Our first day included some stops in the desert (camel ride extra) and ended in the dunes of the Sahara. The highlight of the trip was camping overnight in the Sahara, just my family and 2 Bedouin caretakers who had prepared the campsite and prepared our meals (miles from other people). Our second day included more stops in the desert with an overnight stay in a hotel in Tozeur. The hotel was nice with everything needed for a good nights rest. Our 3rd day was the long drive north to Monastir which is where I had requested we be dropped off when the trip was planned. I highly recommend using Caravane du Sahara if you want to visit Tunisia and stay away from large bus tours.

Amazing trip amazing guides... Jalel was calm and knowledgeable... yet knew when to step aside and let us enjoy the scenery. We had so much fun with these two. We were lucky enough to be only us two in the jeep with the driver and guide. I can imagine that more than 4 people the entire trip would be painful to endure spacewise. So many awesome moments. Tataouine could have been skipped, but chenini and ksar gilhan oasis were superb. What a choc. The desert oh my God... a once in a lifetime adventure. Don't expect anything fancy about the sleeping installations... cocroaches in the washrooms but we didn't mind. It's part of the trip. Only downfall The server at the ksar ghilan camp got a little to friendly with my husband and was talking about finding him a new tunisian wife so he would stay in tunisia... disrespectful to me...

We did the day trip with Aymel and it was even better than hoped for. Punctual pickup from our hotel on Djerba, coffee and rosrmary tea, then quad bikijg and camel ride at Khsar Ghilaine, troglodyte homes at Matmata, khsar tour, great lunch and swim in the sahara. Fast and well air conditioned car. Good value for money. Unforgettable trip.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful 2 day desert tour Zoo and Mohammed. We saw so many things and learnt so much - Zoo has amazing knowledge and kept showing us different things. Mohammed is a very good driver. I thoroughly enjoyed his driving over the desert dunes. We gained a much better understanding of Tunisia's deserts, desert towns and its people. I highly recommend Depart Travel - thanks Aymen for accommodating us at short notice.

The visit to the pit dwelling in MATMATA was my high point. The place is very peaceful and unique and the people there at the moment treated us with kindness and tolerance while we visited the various rooms with their different uses, like the kitchen, bathroom, storage vaults etc . We refreshed with their Tea and tabouna bread.
