Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We took a Bolt taxi from the centre and it took just 20 mins and less than €10 to get there. The castle is in ruins but is set on a mountain top at the confluence of Danube and Morava rivers. On the other side is Austria and so this castle is quite literally on the border.

The extended circuit takes you round the castle and leads to up the middle castle and upper castle. There are about 150 steps leading up to the upper castle from where you can see the rivers and into Austria. There is this really deep well in the middle castle which you can look into.

We spent more than an hour over here wandering around the ruins and then took a taxi back.

Great museum with a very interesting permanent exhibition. Parts of the walls are glass, so you can see the river from inside the building. Both indoors and outdoors exhibitions are lovely. Easy parking, very nice cafe. When sunny, enjoy a coffee break outside. You should spend at least one and a half hour to see the whole exhibition.

Surprisingly it was bigger than expected and really interesting. Alot of Slovakian and Czech cars, motorcycles and there are trains plus there is a little boat model museum. There is nicely translated into English. I definitely recommend.

I recently visited Bratislava's Mirror and Illusion Museum, and it was truly captivating. This small museum is a hidden treasure, offering a mind-bending journey through optical wonders, endless reflections, and interactive illusions. The hands-on exhibits were both fun and educational, making it a must-visit for anyone looking to experience a world where reality and imagination collide.

The exhibitions are e quite small, featuring various Slovak artists, but it gives you a good flavour of Slovak art movements and the write up and presentation is great. There's a really nice library as well and professor hamster is brilliant - originally designed as a tool to help teach kids about art history and get them engaging, it's also terribly entertaining for adults as well.

Very interesting and informative tour of reconstructed bunker from 1937. Libor gave a detailed presentation in English of the functionality and corresponding historical events. Highly recommend for the WW2 enthusiasts! I believe tours are only on Saturdays.

The visit is on three stairs. Many clocks to see from the 17th tilleul 19th century. It is open from 11 AM till 6pm on sunday. The house is very old and narrow on the way to the castle. the entrance is 2,5 €. Quite Nice museum. The entrance is on the left side.

For a museum of only moderate size, there is a lot to see here: not just cars, trucks and trains, but oddball vehicles designed for special purposes, such as a wheeled conveyence made for WW I amputees to drive themselves.

An effort is made to put things in context, too. There's a mock-up railroad office complete with a uniformed mannequin to show you what was needed to run the trains on time "back in the day," along with many smaller exhibits showing authentic railroad attire and equipment to give a good idea of how it all came together. I really enjoy those "you are there" type displays that convey a lot, not only about the work and the equipment, but about the way everything was set up and closely monitored to get the job done well and on time.

A definite highlight is the big locomotive parked outside on the tracks just behind the museum, so you can see it "up close and personal." Also at the back, affixed at eye level to the brick wall of the museum so you can note the progress is a series of illustrations and photos showing the different crossings of the Danube over the years, from the first one to the most recent. It's an interesting sidelight, something I did not expect to see here, but I found very interesting.

Staff when we visited were friendly and helpful, and they spoke some English, which was greatly appreciated.

I think this would be an enjoyable museum for most people, including children, and so I recommend you consider a visit while you are in Bratislava. It is right near the train station. You can ask there if you don't immediately see the entrance.

Entry for an adult was 6 Euro. On the ground floor it had an exhibition focusing on china and the Habsburgs. At the first floor rocks and fossils, and on the other floors stuffed animals, birds and so on. A lot to take in.

Palffy Palace together with Mirbach Palace forms the Bratislava City Gallery and I recommend you buy a 6 euro ticket with which you can visit both. The building is beautiful on the outside, but the interior is fabulous. Mostly I liked the "passage" which represents some kind of a symbolic "short cut across the world" in which we exist. It consists of nearly 15,000 books which together with mirrors create an illusion of endless space and infinity of human knowledge.

This is easy to get to, just next to the old town by the river, with parking on the street outside. There were 4 floors of exhibits, not so much dinosaur skeletons (though there were many fossils) but including a large range of stuffed animals re-created in their natural habitats, and among them a life-size woolly mammoth. There was also a huge collection of crystals and geological crystal rocks of all types, along with a range of other things.

I wasn't sure how the kids (ages 7 and 4) would react but they loved it and were really excited by many of the exhibits.

So for a few Euros and on a rainy day this was time well-spent.
