Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One of the best sites to see in Normandy. To see the holes created by the shelling and to see what the Rangers had to do to capture this position is just incredible.

While fully appreciating the historical significance of the site, I was pretty underwhelmed by the visit compared to other sites in the area: very restricted, unkept and lacking a comprehensive explanation of ALL parties' involvement (German, American, French and English). I understand the need to protect the environs, but let ME decide if I want to risk my life peering over the cliffs to actually see the obstacle(s) the Rangers faced. I had a much better view from my Lazy Boy watching Saving Private Ryan...

Very disappointing considering the unlimited access to the other key locations in the area.

I feel slightly irreverent writing this review of this historic and important site. It is a few years since I last visited the site and was surprised by the way it has been fenced and left to "return to nature". The fencing and the gantries that have been erected, coupled with the fact that the whole area is so overgrown, prevents the visitor from visualising the site and fully appreciating the enormity of the task facing the Rangers who took the site. It feels as if the intention is now to get the visitor in and out in as fast a time as possible.

I first visited this site in 2010 whilst on a 10 day battlefield tour with Air Cadets. It was my favourite site because it felt so untouched and authentic, we were allowed to explore the whole site including the craters. We joked at the time that if the site was in the UK you probably wouldn’t get near it for H&S! I couldn’t wait to bring my husband and children here whilst on our own holiday this year and I was so disappointed! Fences everywhere and everyone is forced to take the same path so it feels really crowded. Most of the site is no longer accessible and it’s so overgrown that the impact of the sheer number of bomb craters is completely lost because you can hardly make them out. Guards everywhere too which I found odd - the whole place is very Americanised! What should have taken a whole afternoon to explore only took 40 minutes. Go and see it if you’re passing by but don’t go out of your way!

I must admit I was disappointed. The site is overgrown, the bunkers are covered with large steel constructions, paths with high ugly fences and no benches to sit and relax. Almost like you have to rush through the site. Too bad for the men that fought here, this is not a tribute to them, we could do better…..

Pointe du hoc has been spoiled beyond belief! Visitors are corralled like sheep along wire fenced lined tracks. The bunkers have been encased by ugly metal platforms. The whole experience is disappointing, even the historical facts are inaccurate, where is there any mention of the British involvement? The fact that there were no guns at Pointe du hoc when the Rangers took it is not really addressed. If you want to experience a proper Battery go to the Maisy Battery, what a fantastic place that is, there is no comparison. Longues sur mer battery is also well worth a visit, don’t waste your time with the Pointe du hoc tourist trap.

Site is very overgrown, lots of fences, you can’t get near anything and the new paths are very limiting. It looks like a nature reserve. It needs some work to get the weeds and grass down. I went in 2019 and I fell in love with the place, better Looking at pics on the internet.

This is a must visit site. It is an exposed site with plenty of remnants of the WWII assault, with information boards providing a comprehensive overview of the site.

The history that was told was amazing. We were able to stand on the cliffs and see just how far the Rangers had to climb. What an incredible experience. We took a half day tour from Bayeux and our tour guide was amazing. Make sure to check the weather, it can get a bit cool.

This is a great place to visit if you are interested in D Day.
Entry is through airport style scanners and is quite strict, better off leaving any bag in the car and people are asked specifically about knives.
There is a walk along graveled paths to the Pointe itself and there are plenty of explanatory notices.
