Closed for Palm Sunday Service
mar 2021
The first Anglican church in Colonial Williamsburg is the Bruton Parish Church was once used as a hospital and storehouse during the Battle of Yorktown. There is a cemetery on the grounds that contains the remains of Confederate and Union soldiers. We arrived as the evening Palm Sunday service was ending and thus were unable to go inside the church. I noticed chairs were set up in the yard, probably for an earlier service as attendees were exiting the church. The Parish House is located one block away on Duke of Gloucester Street. We will have to come another time to view the interior.

A Central Piece of Williamsburg History
apr 2021
This beautiful historic church is deeply interwoven into the history of Williamsburg. Due to COVID the church itself was closed when I visited, but they still have active church services and offer tours if you're able to book early enough.

Even without direct access to the inside though, the gates are open during business hours so that you can tour the historic grounds and graveyard.

An active church (Sunday service). Beautifully decorated and designed. Nice place to stop and meditate during your visit to the restored area.

Wow - Amazing Active Church and Historical Site
dec 2019
I love old churches - but this one was simply amazing....simply the best one in a long time. It is still an active church and they welcomed us inside, provided a brief history and really brought the past alive for us....I strongly recommend you visit and take a bit of time to stop, sit down, reflect, and even say a litle prayer of thanks to see a place where history took place!

Lovely Historical Building!

We stopped by while on a Christmas visit to Williamsburg. The interior is simple but stunning. We especially admired the woodwork and light fixtures. Cute gift shop is attached and manned by members of the Parish - very welcoming and nice quality items!

What a beautiful service with the younger children's choir and older children's choir singing in addition to the adult choir!! Then there was a special visit by St. Nicholas! Little children came forward with wrapped gifts for other children and out them in St. Nicholas's sack. So lovely to see. The Priest gave a lovely homily. Just a beautiful, historic church with a new organ with over 2500 chimes to enjoy. A must see in Colonial Williamsburg!!

Beautiful!
nov 2019
We honeymooned in Williamsburg 40 years ago, but never managed to visit the Bruton Parish Church. We have a print of it in our foyer, so we made sure to visit it last month on our return visit. The pastor was so welcoming, the structure is charming and so historic. A must see!

Hand Bell Concert was Outstanding!
dec 2019
We went to the hand bell concert on Tuesday night and it was very well done. We sat in a pew-box with Patrick Henry's name on it, which was very cool. We went back to the church the next day just to see a little more of it. Don't miss it when you're at colonial Williamsburg.

Historic Congregation
sep 2019
This is one of the few original buildings in Colonial Williamsburg and it is rich in history. Its origins date back to 1674 and among the many historic members of its congregation are our Founder Fathers: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, John Marshall and John Tyler. There is a small cemetery adjacent to the church.

Step into the spiritual world of our founders - it is wonderful!
nov 2019
I have been here many times over the years, and never fail to be moved by the church and graveyard. The attendees were a who's who of our colonial founders - Jefferson, Washington, Henry, Lee, etc.). From a purely architectural point it is a good representation of formal churches of the period. The graveyard is another treasure. In the past you could roam around it at will, marveling at the above ground monuments (as I did may times). Today, visitors are not allowed in except with one of the docents (which I suggest you do). After 300 years this is still an active church. There are services at 7:30, 9:15, 11:15, and evening prayer at 5:30 every Sunday. I have attended there several times, and even if you are not Episcopalian (which I am not) you will find it an amazing experience.
