Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Historic home and farm belonging to the Kidwell family. You can see the home as they lived in it in the 1930’s: wood fueled range, early electric refrigerator, telephone on the wall, the family radio!! There are out buildings: a cider press, blacksmith shop, dairy barn, schoolhouse, etc. And the store has an interesting display of products like they would have sold (and modern snacks, drinks, ice cream that one can purchase!). In the visitors center there is an exhibit room with lots of information on how life would have been in this community and on the farm. Nicely done!

We went for a walk and to observe the animals. We walked for tow miles on picked gravel roads. Clean rest rooms and well maintained facility. A nice place to enjoy the day. Ride in tractor pulled cart or just walk around. Many animals to see.

We saw piglets and their mothers eating like, well-pigs! There were a few days old goats and lambs by their mothers’ sides, a turkey just strutting along, sheep baaing, cows mooing, a bunny looking cute. The horses are majestic… and this all was on a Monday. It was a treat to show up at feeding time. These animals are VERY well cared for and it made my heart happy to escape the more congested and touristy spots (visiting DC) to soak up some sunshine and farm life. This is a perfect stop for families with young children or anyone that loves animals and getting back to nature.

Great park to take the family. See the animals go for a walk. Get outside. My daughter walks here daily, I go with whenever I'm in town. I always enjoy the walk. Plenty of farm animals around to see. The trails have plenty of birds and wildlife to make the walk interesting.

This park is a wonderful place to get away from it all. It has animals for kids and adults to both enjoy, and they have activities for kids and families. For anyone who didn't grow up on a farm, it can be a really fun place to learn new things. For those of us that did grow up in the country or on a farm, it can be like a little taste of home from your childhood.
They also have picnic tables around the property that we enjoy just sitting at and people watching. Sometimes will bring work or homework to do on the picnic tables just because of the atmosphere in the park. It's just a really relaxing place to get away.

This is a pleasant way to spend some time, especially with the family and your dog. The horses, cattle, sheep, and other animals were enjoyable to view and, unless you went on a hay ride or bought anything, it was free.

Visited on Sunday, 2.21. There was exactly one pig out. That’s it. There was ice everywhere that was totally untreated. No salt or sand or anything, which is surprising since those conditions pose a danger not just for visitors, but also employees. When we tried to go over to see the one lone pig, my sister - who was carrying my toddler - stepped on a patch of snow that she didn’t realize was covered in a thick layer of ice. She fell, my toddler hit her head on the ice, and we all went to Urgent Care. There’s no excuse for not doing something about the ice, especially since the place obviously is aware children come to visit...

Always a fun place for all ages. It's a neighborhood gem that's been around for many years. My grandson loves seeing the animals, the hayrides, and the carousel. We can always find things in the little store to buy. The seasonal concerts are great. Lots of picnic tables and parking.

We were looking for somewhere to go to get the kids out for a couple hours, and this place looked like a good idea. We had a great time. It’s easy to get around, and they’ve got lots of animals. It’s definitely a good place to get outdoors for a couple hours.

Frying Pan Farm Park is about 10 miles from the City of Fairfax. There is no admission fee. The farm is open 9am-5pm and the overall park is open dawn to dusk. It's great for all ages! I recommend you go to the Visitor Center first (open 9:30am-4:30pm) at 2739 West Ox Road so you can learn a little more about what the park offers. There is cow milking daily in Kidwell Barn at 4pm. Right now, we have a new calf and two new lambs.

are there golf carts for rent for horse show parents at Frying Pan Park?

Hi! Frying Pan does not offer golf carts for rental. Here are some other things relating to this concept. The Park Authority has a policy (p. 102) which states that small vehicles like that can only be driven by staff at the park. Also, the public is not permitted to bring small vehicles like that to the park. Thanks for writing.

What is the story behind the name? A frying pan seems an odd implement to name a park after.

A nearby stream is still called Frying Pan; the small area around it took on the name as well. The origin of the name of the stream is unknown, although it may relate to the copper mining that went on in the area.
