A Stroll In the Middle of the River
mar 2021 • Páry
Orange island park is a pleasant place to visit right in the middle of the river running through the city. It’s got a convenient location with metro line 2 stopping there directly and a bridge you can walk across if you so choose as well. The park is quite long and boasts a few different highlights such as a “beach” park, various gardens, ponds and arbor groves to walk through, as well as a large statue of the head of a young Mao. The head has a museum focused on his early life as well, though this was closed for renovations when we went. The park is free to walk through but it also features a shuttle and tram system that costs about 45RMB and allows for up to 5 hop ons at designated stops. The tram is worth the price if you want to explore the entire island without burning yourself out. We visited right after climbing mt Yuelu and found the tram quite helpful! It’s really a lovely walk through the island, with a few nice buildings like a pagoda, though there’s not much in the way of other activities or historical/architectural sights to see. I suggest visiting on a clear day for some open air strolling

Great outdoors activity for a lazy afternoon
dec 2020 • Páry
Having just enjoyed an amazing lunch, we wanted to walk it off and this was the perfect place. Despite it being really cold, we loved to see all the activity in the park - perfect to see so many people having fun and enjoying a winter’s afternoon. The island contains a myriad of places to explore, from bamboo gardens, to sculpture gardens to little grottos and scenic lakes. We caught the subway over for 2RMB and then leisurely strolled to the end of the island to check out the young Chairman Mao statue. We decided to catch the miniature train back (40RMB) - something really popular to do, but bye long queue moved quickly.

Honouring the life of Mao Zedong
nov 2020
The 32-meter in height granite monument of Mao Zedong's head is one of the main attractions of Orange Island. I assume it gets its name from the many orange orchards on the island. It is famous for its rich tasting oranges. .

LONG WALK
aug 2019
We walked the whole Orange island, took some pictures and then caught the little shuttle bus back down. It was a little drizzly, but was very busy with both locals and tourists. A nice outing if you have an hour or two. Very neat and very clean.

What a beautiful architecture!
dec 2019 • Rodinné
What a beautiful piece of art work to create such sculpture of late Chairman Mao in his Youth Day ! It was a huge sculpture and very impressive for you to visit during day or night time! We were lucky to come at night before closing at 9pm to see such beautiful sculpture. The night has light up and seem to be beautiful than day time. A big park to walk around and you can spend a day here!

Young Mao
sep 2019
We often see Chairman Mao depicted as an old man, it is interesting to see him young, with long hair and in huge proportions. Beware to check if the island is open as there are floods sometimes, and we cannot go anymore.

It is a good place for walking.
okt 2019
The park is noted for the oranges. That is why it is named orange island. The location is good.It is early to get there by the metro. The entry is free and the mini bus is charged for 20 Yuan per person. When you purchase the mini bus ticket, you can get on the bus five times in one day.I visited the whole island on foot.A little bit tired but quite worthy.I saw so many orange trees, the Chinese style buildings, the huge statue of Chairman Mao.I even took a look at the Dufu Jiang Ge at the other side of Xiangjiang. Everything is amazing.it is worth your visiting.

Must See Attraction
okt 2019
Orange Island is amazing. Changsha has so much history and Orange Island is a key element to that history. Surrounded by beautiful gardens a gentle stroll around the island is certainly worthwhile, especially visiting the massive sculpture of a "Young" Mao.
