Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Chenini is remarkable for it isolation among the cliffs and rocky hills. Some families still live here but many of the houses look run down and abandoned.
My only reluctance to recommend visiting this timeless village is the long travel time to get here.

Magical - though if you want to visit a real ghost-town and have it all to yourself, ask your driver to take you to nearby Douiret.

An open air museum where you can explore how locals have lived for centuries. Particular interest is the donkey powered olive oil press that locals have stopped using about 40 years ago as rains became a lot more scarce.

A local guide will take you through the village and show you the oldest olive press and explain the history of this beautiful Berber village.

The area of Chenini is so amazing. The White Mosquee and the desertcolored houses Will blow your mind away.
This area is full of magic photomoments and so well kept. The People Who work inside the small coffeshop on Top, the small stores and in the hotel in this area are so friendly!
Buy a desertrose as a suvenir, they cost as little as 1 dinar.
This is not a tourist trap. The entry is for free and the coffeshop is not expensive.
The restaurant Mabrouk at the entry is not expensive either.
Make sure your memorycard has sufficient space and charge your battery coz you Will constantly want to capture all the images you see. Dont forget to pass the Mosquee and enter all the way up to the Top. There is a Olive press inside a Cage which has drawings inside from berber time. Ask the man next to the small store to show you the location of Star wars. Dont forget to tip him 2 dinar after, its well Worth it for getting the inside tips of where to find the best angle.
Ask inside the coffeshop for the direct ion to a small waterfall located about 1,5 km down the road. The ride through the valley where you Will find green Oasis with palmtrees and green grass combined with Mountains and dessert is really a special experience.

Don’t understand why this isn’t promoted heavily. Unbelievably beautiful rock cut village. Only one hotel doubles as restaurant food excellent. Almost no tourists or people. Go here.

Absolutely a must see village, very short drive from Tataouine. Unfortunately is very run down and not many tourists are visiting but it is a jewel in the South.

Went here with my fiance with no guide. Easy to get there, beautiful breathtaking place which you can walk around in a less than an hour (especially when it's 40 degrees outside). Great stop over on your way to Matmata or other places.

The charm of that buildings is that they are located on top of a mountain. There's also a nice white mosque there.

Chenini has the quality of places like Cappadocia, an almost unreal setting where real people decided to call home and survive. The difference with Cappadocia is that troglodyte people are still living in there so, although it's unreal, it's more real than ever. You should go.
