quick visit

Not much to see - however the view of the Sound is decent and the grounds of the college are nice. At the time we visited, the area was a fly-way for Monarch butterflies making their annual migration.

This is a beautiful place. Worth a nice 3 hour afternoon visit looking out at the Thames River and Long Island Sound!

Beautiful views, sunsets and grounds

Went out to Avery Point, located on the UConn Campus to watch the sunset on a beautiful evening. We use to come out here when we lived here 33 years ago. On the weekends parking was free and not crowded at all. We walked around the paths looking at all the art work displayed and sat out on the rocks overlooking the sound watching the ships and ferry's go by until the sunset. We walked down to the lighthouse but you are not allowed to go inside.

If you're looking for a relaxing evening that costs nothing, then this is the place to experience it all with the family or someone special.

Gorgeous view of the Atlantic!
máj 2019
A must-see! We were lucky that we saw this on a gorgeous sunny day. The lighthouse really stands out against the deep blue water of the Atlantic. Since the lighthouse is on the Marine sciences campus of UConn, you can also walk around the campus and visit places like the art gallery at the Bradford House, a beautiful Manor. Definitely recommend for the views!

The lighthouse is Ok, but the mansion sings......

I was so distracted by this wonderful 'summer cottage' built in the spirit of all those summer cottages during the Gilded Age around the turn of previous century, 1900. These were really mansions for the ultra wealthy (as in Newport, Rhode Island and Lenox, Massachusetts). The front door was open and I explored.

The building now hosts over 70 wedding parties a year, and I would consider it the showcase building of this UCONN campus.

The grounds here are filled with art work and have spectacular views of the sound. It's a lovely walk around the perimeter at any time of year.

On a college campus
aug 2018 • Sólo
OK first cool thing about this lighthouse is it is on a college campus of all places. Second cool thing is there is all sorts of sculptures on the grounds as you approach the lighthouse itself. I do ask if anyone visits here find a black camera bag with a Canon lens in it if they would contact me I’d appreciate it as I seem to have left that behind. The lighthouse itself is pretty awesome to look at I was able to get some nice photographs framing the background with the clouds and passing sailboats. There is a fee to park but I managed to scratch that by just taking the photos I came for and leaving but let’s keep that between us shall we. The purpose of my visit was merely to see the lighthouse and go but I am sure there is much more to do and explore on the campus grounds if that would be something of interest for you.

Beautiful Newport style mansion on Avery Point, Groton
sep 2018 • Páry
Avery Point lodges the UCONN maritine studies for the college. It's a beautiful location on the water with the Avery Point lighthouse as well as a view of the Ledge lighthouse. UCONN owns the Branford House pictured in the photo above and it functions as offices for the college as well as a fantastic wedding venue every weekend. The walk to the Avery Point lighthouse is nice as well as the path around The Branford House. Seeing Avery Point is well worth a visit.
