- helenandpaul13Worcester, United Kingdom1,645 contributionsOne of the finest places I have ever visited during my history of travellingI took an organised trip of the temples of Angkor Wat and this was the first place we visited. We arrived well before sunrise and after purchasing tickets, which cost $37 for a day pass, we were driven to the site. It was very dark when we arrived because if was about 5.30am. First we had to cross a man made walkway which is like standing on thick sponge. We made our way along the path to the site of the temple and stood some distance from it waiting for sunrise. There were lots of people in front all trying to get a spot where you can photograph the temple and catch its image in the water ahead. Once the light emerged there we all were snapping away, before we retreated a short distance so we could observe the sunrise over the horizon. As the sun came up the enormity of the site came into view. It is magnificent and I would have paid double just for this view. After further pictures our guide took us over the bridge to the temple entrance. We were shown wall carvings and other items and the guide gave us a description of how the site was initially a Hindu site which then transformed into a Buddhist temple. There are parts of the site where you can see the Hindu gold and others displaying the Buddhist red. After walking round the first level, we walked up towards level two where the guide gave us further details of the site. After that we were provided with the opportunity to head to the top level. Now access to this level is up about 45 very steep steps with a handrail at the side. People with a nervous disposition or those with walking difficulties may find access to this part tricky. Because, once you get up there you have to come back the same way down steep narrow stairs with only a handrail. In cold and wet weather, without sensible shoes this could be a nightmare. After some time on the top level the guide took us round the back of the second level where we could get more pictures and he also showed us the centre of the entire complex. There are ruins of empty pools and there was also a space for people to pray. We then made our way back over the bridge towards the entrance where we could get a clearer view of the man made walkway. You can run out of superlatives to describe this place and it's easy to understand why UNESCO made this a world heritage site. Visitors should just remember to dress respectfully as there are limits to what you can and cannot wear, have comfortable shoes on your feet and try not to have a fear of heights if you want to see the vastness of the site from the very top. In summary, the title of this review says it all. It's one of the most beautiful sites on the planet and worth every dollar. A great big thank you to the driver who kept us supplied with water bottles and to the guide, Sen Prourng, who gave detailed explanations of everything and took lots of pictures for us. We saw four temples in all. See my separate reviews on the places we visited on the tour. An unbelievable experience.Visited March 2023Written 19 March 2023

From the intricate carvings and bas-reliefs to the towering spires and majestic galleries, every inch of this majestic temple is a marvel to behold. Its stately towers and spires reach to the sky, and its splendid walls are adorned with stunning bas-reliefs and carvings. - Kev FarrellU.S. Virgin Islands4 contributionsAmazing! It's definitely worth a great place to visit! We have seen its pictures on internet but we had been so supprised when we were here. We wondered how they can make these ourstanding temples with unique sculptural decorations. We had only 3 days in Siem Riep and we hoped we could have a few more days. Highly recommend you to buy 2 days tickets!Visited March 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 22 March 2023
- lindaepp85Canon City, Colorado8 contributionsBeautifulVisited the site 2 times. The first day we did a three temple tour with a hired guide that the hotel arranged. He was wonderful and spoke great English. He was a walking encyclopedia of information and we really appreciated that. We opted for the three day pass even though we only went 2 days. It was the same price and it kept us from having to go back to the ticket office on the morning of our sunrise tour. The sunrise tour was amazing…..a must see.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 March 2023
- EvolvingHong Kong, China43 contributionsBeautiful, peaceful, hotWe had an amazing visit to Angkor Wat, Angkor Tom and surrounding temples. Our guide (amazing, Sam So, happy to share his contact info), told us March and April are the hottest months of the year. We were pretty much alone the first afternoon - Friday - but there were more people on Satuday. We adjusted to accommodate for the heat, cutting out the middle part of the day. The third floor of Angkor Wat was not to be missed. Prioritize that if you must cut down. We also went to watch the sunrise on Satuday night from the one place where it is allowed. Amazing. Highly recommend getting a guide but it's not essential.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 March 2023
- Teijo YHelsinki, Finland8 contributionsAnkor Wat tour with guide Sopheap RatherI had an amazing day with Ankor Full-Day Tour by Join-in luxury MiniBus. The temples are an must ,once in a lifetime experience. But the trip there was perfect because we were lucky to get a SUPER good guide name Sopheap Rather. His knowledge about Cambodian history and culture and the various temples was very informative and interesting to listen. He also had a great humor that made our whole group happy. he was the best tour guide I ever had, I`m 65 year`s and been to 97 countries. Highly recomend his cervise if you want to make this great trip 100% successful.Visited March 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 29 March 2023
- Yvonne SSan Clemente, California87 contributionsA MUST SEE!An excellent morning touring this ancient temple. We had a great guide as part of our Uniworld cruise. He explained so much of the history which is an absolute must. The day was absolutely sweltering with temps and humidity but we took enough rest stops to drink much needed water. The highlight was taking the very steep steps up to the top of one of the towers. Not for the faint of heart. The staircase is extremely steep and the handrails were burning hot!! Even scarier going down but worth it!Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 March 2023
- Zefy S4 contributionsMy expectations were exceededIts great when something you have always wanted to see not only meets your expectations but exceeds them. We did the sunrise tour through our hotel and it was worth it. Was very peaceful and respectful considering the amount of people there. The colours of the sunrise were spectacular. No photos or words would do it justice. It is something everyone should see and enjoy for themselves. I was genuinely surprised at how well preserved Angkor Wat was. I was even more surprised at how much access you get and suspect this will get tightened in the coming years to ensure the temple is not destroyed by tourism. You do need a guide to get all the history of the various areas and the bass reliefs freezes on the walls. Ours was very ordinary so I won’t recommend him however we were able to hear other tour guides who provided a lot of information and it does give you a good understanding of what you are seeing. We also saw Angkor Tom and Ta Prahm temples and I have to admit after Angkor Wat I preferred Ta Prahm to Angkor Tom because of all the trees growing through the walls. It was very hot when we were there. 37 deg and high humidity. This does take a lot out of you so ensure you have plenty of water. I went through 4 bottles in a few hours and I was very grateful that our tuk tuk driver always had a cold towel and cold bottle of water waiting for us.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 April 2023
- Min Cen QingOttawa, Canada10 contributionsA must-doComing here and admiring one of the marvels of the world. You'd better to have a local guide who will share you the background of the temples and interesting legends. A sunrise tour would be much great as it'll not very crowded like in the day time, and the most importance is you can take the super stunning pictures. Highly recommened!Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 April 2023

Awe Inspiring!!! My wife and I visited Angkor Wat as a lifetime goal of ours to see all the Wonders of the World, Cambodia and the entire Angkor Wat compound with all the temples including the world famous Angkor Wat and the temple run were just amazing. It is truly a very long day as you leave your hotel before sunrise to see the sun rise over the temple, prepare for a very humid experience like never before and just take it all in. We hired our own private driver to bring us around for less than $20 for the entire day. You need to book tickets on the government web site prior to your visit as well as these tickets will continuously be checked throughout the day at different locations. There are numerous temples at Angkor Wat to see so we suggest you do a little research prior and include all the temples you like and let your driver know. We started at 4am and ended our day around noon as Cambodia humidity can be unforgiving but it was one of the most amazing days ever.

It's so huge and most impressive temples we have ever visited. We did tour by bike with sunset. Our guide was very very good. Lot of other temples to see in Siemreap. The next day we did by tuk tuk. Liked the countryside scenery and busy pub streets by night!

I did the sunrise tour of 4 temples. It is tiring but amazing. What made it evan better was the tour guide Sen. He had great English and a vast knowledge of the temples and Cambodian religions etc. He kept our group moving along and motivated as it is a tiring day. After the trip he sent pictures and created a video of our group of the day. Five star trip and man

Angkor Wat is amazing. we spent 2 full days sightseeing. I highly recommend the Tuk Tuk driver who drove us around the attractions for 2 days. speaks English and talks about the history of Cambodia and the attractions of Angkor. we also went with him at sunrise and he drives skillfully to avoid the crowds. if you are in siem reap you can also take advantage of other tours with him. very obliging and helpful, you don't have to rush sightseeing. it also has water and cold towels for tourists. I highly recommend it!

This is the biggest religious architectural establishment. This is amazingly big and beautiful. You get more info regarding its historical value and all in google. So let me give you some tips instead-
1. Go before sunrise, must. at least before 30 mins before. get a good spot nearby the lake to see the breathtaking symmetrical beauty on the lake water. (i shared my photo)
2. Ppl usually go back after sunrise for breakfast and come back later to explore the place. So you should finish your visit now with less crowded state. take more beautiful pictures and give time to its historic relics etc.
3. Go up to the 3rd level, find a corner and sit for a while. try to feel the spiritual state their alone, you can listen to some mindfulness music…..its works amazingly.
4. Don't miss the center of earth point and the small echo hall……and also the ramayan craft over the walls…..it was so detailed…..you will get wondered.
After your visit if you still feel hungry, you will find 2/3 local restaurants outside…..grab some juice or tea.

Wonderful site, we visited Angkor, Bayon and Ta Phrom with a guide and travelled between sites with tuk tuk.
Temples are truly impressive, remember it is still a religious site, so dress appropriately, knees, shoulders covered. There is a lot of walking and a steep stairway, should you wish to reach upper levels of Angkor temple, good footwear recommended with a hat and water, as it can be very hot.
We arrived fairly early so wasn’t too busy, short ride from Siem Reap by tuk tuk.
Anyone visiting this area must visit the temples they are truly wonderful, and having a guide helped to understand the history of the sites immensely.

Amazing to see this. We went for sunrise and then went back in the day for a tour. Sunrise was great to see but the sun does not actually rise behind the main site so some people were a bit disappointed - I still think we’ll worth doing. The tour later was great - there is so much to see. There are a lot of steps with no rails and also some that are quite steep. You can easily miss these out and stick to lower parts without losing out greatly.

Hi, I am planning to visit Angkor Wat on 13th & 14th April'24, which falls on the Khmer New Year dates - are temples closed on these days? Can I go ahead and buy 3 day pass for visiting the temples ?
Sorry. I have never been during the New Year.

Is it easy to pick up a Grab taxi or tuk tuk when leaving the site at the end of the day? We do not plan to take a tour but make our own way there from Siem reap but want to make sure we will be able to get back to town. Thanks
Yes , there are loads at both sites

Hi,
They laminate the pass for you, with a rather wide margin all the way around. The size of the laminated pass is 3 3/4" high x 5 1/4" wide. Have fun!

Same as previous response. Arrange a guide through your hotel (whom will help arrange you buy the permit). We went in April 23 and it was fantastic.

Yes, there is one area with steep steps at the back of the compound in which you can see the view from the top, but it is in no way mandatory to do. The steps up to the first floor if I remember correctly are a little high but are in no way near as challenging as the ones I mentioned previously.
Also, you don't have to necessarily go inside the compound as the walk around it is plenty beautiful as well. There are quite a few gorgeous temples in the immediate area that don't have many steps either like Angkor Thom, Bayon Temple and Ta Prohm.
