- Ginges_revengeBrisbane, Australia4,732 contributionsNice to look at from the outside but a castle with not much substance.I didn't find to much substance to the castle and was not overly impressed with it. Yes, its nice to view from in the old town and other view points around but that was about it for me. The courtyard at the front was good and then trying to find the ticket office and something decent to see, I didn't rate it. Got some nice photos but that was about it for me.Visited February 2023Written 5 April 2023
- Ross HWarwick, Australia2,313 contributionsBeautifulCold windy day put a dampener on our visit. The castle is beautiful and the views spectacular. There’s a restaurant/cafe there but we didn’t try it. We arrived very early spring but the gardens were still recovering from winterVisited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 April 2023
- William FDenver, Colorado653 contributionsNice hike up and worth it for the viewsWent here in April 23. I enjoyed the hike up, but could be challenging for some. I did not go in, but just enjoyed the gardens and the views from on top. Didn't hurt that I had perfect spring weather. It is worth going up to see the panoramic views of the city and the river.Visited April 2023Travelled soloWritten 9 May 2023
- T DPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania3,354 contributionsMust see if you’re in BratislavaAfter visiting Bratislava Old Town, we walked up the hill to the Castle. It can be a bit challenging if you can’t walk uphill - it took us about 20 min to walk from the Old Town. No entrance fee needs to be paid if you only walk around the grounds and garden. There is a small gift shop and restaurant available. View on top towards the city is lovely!Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 May 2023
- Judy431Grayson, Georgia82 contributionsCastle grounds are worthwhile, interior is notThe castle grounds are very nice with a beautiful of the Danube and the city. It is a bit of a steep hike up to reach the castle. The gardens are nice though not large. We bought tickets (12 euros per adult) to tour the inside but were disappointed by the lack of things to see and left knowing little more than when we arrived about the castle or Slovakia. I did appreciate the information about the man who worked on the restoration of the castle but the Communists would not use his plans and threw him in prison. There was a mediocore modern art exhibit and an exhibit of historic pottery from the region. The sign said "History of Slovakia" for the floor but the pottery was all that was historic. Not much in many of the rooms, one had some portraits, maybe of the Hapsburgs? No signs to identify or give information about the paintings. We almost missed the treasury exhibit on our way out. It sounds like we missed the basement but hard to say if there was anything to see there. Hope more content is added in the future for travelers like us that would like to learn a little about the places we visit.Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 June 2023
- Famontherun888 contributionsOnly Good for ViewsWe did not go inside the castle, which from reviews was our good fortune. We walked up to the castle for some lovely views. There is a small garden, but the views were the best thing overall. This is not impressive as European castles go. There is a lovely coffee shope at the the bottom of the hill, Korona Kavehz, which had the most delicious cremeschnitte I have ever eaten!Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 June 2023
- PHILCWokingham, United Kingdom11 contributionsBratislava Castle visitArrived in Bratislava from a river cruise stop, we found Bratislava a great place to visit with plenty of pretty houses, shops and cafes. We walked up to the Castle from the city centre which was an effort due to the very high temperatures [30 degrees] but the views from the Castle were well worth the effort. The Castle itself is well maintained and built to show off the local workmanship. The gardens were especially good.Visited June 2023Written 30 June 2023
- LittleMissSUnited Kingdom18 contributionsOutside great but don't bother visiting insideGreat views from the castle grounds over the city and the river. I would not bother visiting the inside of the castle unless you want to see some art displays and some information on the restoration of the castle. The outside around the castle is a lot nicer with a lovely garden and plenty of benches to have a rest.Visited July 2023Written 3 August 2023
- Josie IinoCambridge, United Kingdom132 contributions4 starsThe descent up to the castle was the highlight of the Bratislava for me. Walking alongside the Old Town into the The Temple of St. Nicholas and then eventually entering the baroque garden was genuinely a magical experience. It was simply so beautiful. The palace itself is nice on the outside, and it shows the mix of beautiful and not-so-beautiful architecture the city has to offer. The palace itself is nothing special, and the inside is alright. There are some very picturesque views you have access to through the top dome, but it feels dwarfed by the view of the Donau in Budapest and the red roofs lining the streets of Prague. Overall, this castle is mid-tier, but getting there through the Old Town was as good as my favourite moments in Prague and Budapest (my favourite cities).Visited August 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 23 August 2023
- Markéta_TravelCzech Republic128 contributionsHappy reviewOne of the most beautiful places to go. It reminds me of my childhood. The areas are well kept, it's a smaller size of a castle. There are restaurants all over and the people there are very friendly and helpful they sit and talk with you share their part with you. There are many churches close by and trams and busses to get around. The weather in the summer is pretty warm it's not too hot it's one of the places where you can truly relax and be happy.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 7 September 2023

After spending the day in Bratislava, we decided to go up to the castle to kill time as it is open until 10pm.
It is a beautiful location with an unreal view of the city, especially at night.
Unfortunately the museum wasn't open on a Tuesday, and we arrived too late to view the gardens.
However undoubtably both would have been beautiful experiences that hopefully we can one day enjoy.

Overlooking the city and with a view of the Danube and UFO tower, the castle can be accessed via the 150 odd steps or a winding path.
Gardens are free to explore but the castle requires a ticket. There is a cloak room to store your coats and lockers for bags. If you do not have a euro coin on your the kind lady provides a plastic token for the lockers.
The castle is modern and baroque style. The rooms are bare with paintings on the wall. It becomes repetitive walking through the many rooms.
The gardens are not huge and quite bare in the winter. The views from the top are nice. So would suggest a visit for the same.

Really interesting place to walk, but nothing special, if you don't have to much time on this city, don't try to run and go there.

Bratislava castle is not something you can miss. It's sits high up on a hill overlooking the old town.
Didn't go inside the castle but it is free to wander about the grounds and outside the castle.
You aren't going to visit Bratislava and not go see the castle?

This visit was a must and we weren't disappointed. Simply fabulous. We visited on a particularly cold and snow covered day. But I think that just made the experience even better. We didn't book a tour and just made our own way around, everyone was so helpful and friendly. We stopped in the little cafe while there and the hot chocolate is highly recommended. This landmark is a must if you visit Bratislava.

Outwardly, the castle is mainly from the 17th century onwards but go inside and down into the basement and you encounter the medieval and even Roman ruins beneath. I was surprised that nobody else seemed to realise this. There's even traces of the Celtic fortress that was once here, destroyed by Roman legions. At ground floor level, it's a bit bland and that might put people off. They should rethink the exhibits to draw visitors in a bit more. The shop and cafe were closed, which was disappointing.

The castle, it’s views and grounds were a really nice surprise in their splendour but I recommend you give yourself plenty of time as the castle is huge.
I walked over several floors from underground foundations including Roman, to the top of one of the towers. The walkways were never ending with room after room to explore and several times not knowing if I was making my way round in any particular order however that said it was well worth the visit with some fascinating history!

We walked to the castle on foot. Its like a 15 minute hike and its really nice. On the hill you can look around the castle for free. Inside you have to pay for the museum. If you have the bratislava card, the museum is included, so you don’t need to pay. Inside there are many interesting things to see - history of Slovakia…

The Bratislava Castle is a massive rectangular building with four corner towers. It stands on an isolated rocky hill of the Little Carpathians, directly above the Danube River in the middle of Bratislava. Because of its location and size, it has been a dominant feature of the city for centuries.
Inside the castle you will find many historical interests such as Slovakia’s ancient history, antique furnishings and clocks, weaponry and centuries old portraits of prominent personalities in Central Europe.
The climax of the visit is a walk up to the castle’s highest tower for incredible views.
The castle continues to be under renovation.

Yes there is paradise. It is immediately on entering. Bags coats can be left with a constantly supervised employee. Its free and is an excellent service. Recommended.

Sono circa ottocento metri a piedi, a seconda del giro che si fa. L'altezza non è tantissima ma sufficiente per una buona visione, direi circa 200 m di dislivello

High above the river with great views and I would take the word of the previous responder on the exact height.
There is public transportation to get there although we visited as part of an organised city tour. Walking there takes you up a steep hill
