Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nice pit-stop on our way to Vienna from Lubenik. The weather did not cooperate, but you can still appreciate the beauty of this old square. Was there in time to hear the church bells chime. Wish we had more time than the 1 hour we were there.

Our tour group of 22 visited here in late September on a rainy day, which cut short much of our time.

The Medieval times in Banska Bystrica are closely connected with mining and trade. As such, the wealthy citizens of town built their houses directly in the middle of town that created this colorful square. It has been the hub of city life for more than 600 years. It also has had many different names through the years, but today is named after the 1944 insurgency

Dominating the square is the leaning Clock Tower, Old Town Hall, Thurzo House (among one of many houses), The Plague Column, and a very ugly pile of rocks (Stone Fountain). One can also find a number of shops and cafes.

I wish that we could have spent more time here in the sunshine, which would have enhanced the fabulous facades of the buildings.

beautiful square full of flowers, surrounded by historic buildings, restaurants bars where you can sit in the summer, at the end of summer there is a Radvan fair where you can buy handmade products made of wood, wicker, leather. In the upper part of the square there is a tower under which they have a excelent ice cream.

Banska Bystrica is located in a mining area and founded as a mining town; the city has prospered due to the surrounding mines, including copper, silver (metal), gold and iron.
Fear of the Ottoman invasion, the city walls were strengthened in the 16th century. In the 19th century a paper mill was established in the city, (which was greatly expanded) and a railway that accelerated the development of the city.
Central market very beautiful, renovated with historical monuments and other attractions for tourists.

I have visited Banska Bystrica numerous times over the years. There are many more restaurants and bars on the square, than there was 20 years ago. I guess this adds to the atmosphere, it is a great place to sit with a coffee or beer on a sunny day.
The architecture of the buildings around the square is wonderful too.

Very large and nice square with many cafes around it. It is really nice to sit in one of them and drink coffee while watching people walking around.

Banska Bystrica is a small and cute city in the middle of Slovakia. It's a nice city but there is not much to do. You can find everything you need. If you are interested in, you can go to the Ministry of Fun it's the most popular nightclub in Slovakia.

Lovely square with attractive historic buildings mostly very well maintained.
Lots of cafes.
Pedestrianised so great place to wander with kids as it is huge and not many people at all, even Fri and Sat nights! (end of Sept)
obelisk, fountain and statue of Virgin Mary provide some focus.
Interesting music from the clock tower!!
