Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I visited in May 2023 by train from Bratislava - 3.5 hours each way. It was worth it to see the countryside and spot castles in the last hour of the journey. The principal train station is further from the town centre than the Mesto train station but does have nice stained glass and statues. The principle attractions are the SNP Museum and the town square. 2-3 hours is more than adequate. I'm glad I went but feel no need to make a return visit.

If you happened to be in Slovakia please visit this city. The center is full of restaurants, cafe and more. There is a Second World War museum worth visiting also.

As Banska Bystrica is featured in tourist guides and maps, whereas Banska Stiavnica is not, I opted for the former and was sorely disappointed. It was difficult to find the town square and I didn't see one brown sign indicating a historical site. The main touristic church was closed (on a Sunday afternoon) and I didn't find anything else of any interest. Give it a pass.

We did not spend much time in the town, but it was clean and the buildings are a nice sight to check out. Some of the churches are very old and there are many of them .

This is the place. I want to live here on the square. Signs nearby noting soviets have cleared the mines. Signs noting soviet dead while freeing (conquering) the town. Flowers, great fountains, wonderful views, cafes, you name it and it is here with a lack of tourists.

Wonderful historical town, worthwhile to spend at least a full day to explore the whole town. Parking can be tricky, make sure to "top-up" SMS parking fee before each hour passes, otherwise it can become invalid.

We visited the town over the weekend and were really impressed by the town and the fortifications. The people were friendly and the buildings and architecture are some of the best you will see in Europe.
I recommend and visit.
