Stay in comfy accomodations in the villa, dine el fresco on the patio, enjoy multi-course meals pared with great wines and each day you will feel "I have died and gone to Heaven"! In September 2019 I spent one week at the Toscana Saporita cooking School. First of all this vacation was planned so 4 old friends could see each other again As we all live fairly far from each other one in Canada, one in North America one in South west America and myself in Holland Europe. After several weeks of correspond-ence we decided that this cooking school was the best to learn about Italian food and see several sights in that area. This vacation turned out to be so much more than eating, drinking & sightseeing. The moment you arrive you are greeted by the owner Sandra Rosy Lottie who has more charm than one should be allowed her husband Marco and her excellent cooking staff all graduates of the CIA (cooking school of America). I had the feeling I was home. Our room was beautiful good beds, shower & A welcome meal in my room because I arrived late. The area itself is enormous many houses and a very nice pool. After breakfast in the morning we would cook for 3 hours & at lunch we would eat what we had prepared. Than around 15:00 in the afternoon Antonio De Vito our chauffeur Known to us as Uncle Tony would take us to see the sights. Uncle Tony was a super Tour guide knew everything there was to tell about where we were. Some of the sights were Pisa, Lucca, Viareggio & Sam Gimmigiano with the best gelato! We all were in agreement that Alessio makes the best bread and what an honor that Chef cook Chris Covelli from Sage Restaurant in Sarasota gave us our first cooking lesson. We were a large group of women about 19 and every single women there was delightful, I believe we have made more friends for life!

A Tuscan Experience

This is my second time visiting the cooking school. If you want a very unique vacation or improving your cooking skills this is the place to go! Sandra and her staff are fabulous. The basic course makes wonderful adventure for an unusual experience. It combines learning basic Italian cooking with tours around the region of Pisa and cuisine and wine beyond your dreams. It is a casual atmosphere and really you leave feeling like part of a family ( other guests and staff). I went back for the advanced course that required about 3 more hours of kitchen time and no touring. One day is very special and you go on a truffle hunt in the forest. This is a very interesting adventure. Totally I give this an A+ which I think would make a great adventure and unique experience.

Amazing Authentic Tuscan Experience

This was a bucket list trip for me being Italian and loving to cook. The experience was authentic, the food was amazing and the team was energetic and fun! We would highly recommend others to come have an authentic Tuscan experience! Loved Sandra and her team!

I just graduated from my week at Toscana Saporita Cooking School and it surpassed all expectations which were already high. I want to say that my experience was polar opposite of MamasGotToTravel because I did an extraordinary amount of baking, cooking, pasta rolling, cutting, and assembling. I took the regular program as well as the afternoon advanced and baking. As part of the regular program the students were patiently taught knife skills (thanks Keith!) as well as we made pasta, multicolor spinach ravioli, 2 types of gnocchi, pastry crust which we then used to make a chocolate Nonno tart, 2 types of pizza dough, tiramisu and risotto. I’m sure I’ve forgotten a few dishes. There were also dishes demonstrated by staff. All the while Sandra and her staff are providing historical information on how the dish came to Italy and why it’s important to the region. Sandra is passionate about preserving the regional dishes of her heritage. She loves to joke about the French but it’s clear she’s just joking. We also learned a lot of important information about food safety and Keith in particular taught a lot about how to eat healthy. If you really want an extraordinary experience - also take the advanced and baking courses which are offered in the afternoon while the other students tour the region. During these courses I made branzino in papillote, brutti ma buono ( ugly and good cookies), linzer torte and canutti ( biscotti) cookies, homemade puff pastry ( one of my personal highlights), a myriad of wonderful treats made with the puff pastry including quiche, croissants, apple tarts and sweet and savory pastry twists, donuts, various breads made with starters, annelotti pasta stuffed with pumpkin and more. This was definitely a hands on experience! We also spent a day truffle hunting and the of Juto found 3 white truffles which was quite exciting! The process of training the dogs is amazing, as was our 3 course lunch with fresh white truffles shaved onto each course. The breakfast, lunch and dinners are extraordinary and after the first day I realized I had to pace myself better. Sandra and her staff were open to each student and we all became family. They are also extremely flexible in adjusting to people’s eating styles. I’m a pescatarian and they provided me separate dishes to accommodate - for example the class made saffron vegetarian risotto for me while they also made saffron risotto with ossa bucco sauce for the rest of the class. I was also surprised by MamasGottaTravel’s comment about tips for the staff. Every tour, cruise or other travel experience I’ve ever taken mentions that tips for staff are appreciated. I felt no pressure - but surely wanted to tip since the staff clearly helped make my stay with them one of a kind. I can not sing enough praise for Sandra and her entire Toscana Saporita staff. If you are a foodie - this is for you.

What an amazing week at Toscana Saporita! Chef Sandra and her team (Keith, Alessio, and interns) were top-notch. It was the perfect balance of cooking in the morning and exploring Tuscan towns (Lucca, Viareggio, Forte Dei Marmi, Montepulciano, Civita di Bagnoregio, & San Gimignano) in the afternoon. The Savini Tartufi Truffle Hunt was a highlight, as well! The trip exceeded our expectations, and we're already set to return next year! Highly recommend booking your Toscana Saporita reservation - you won't be disappointed!

Culture more than Cooking

With great excitement attended the weeklong "cooking" school only to find out there isn't much cooking done by students. Staff do an excellent job giving tutorials and much is learned as to the whys and hows of Italian food from the mealtime culture and health lectures provided by Sandra. Students do make pasta and biscotti, as well as assemble Tiramisu, but that's it. Not much cooking. Staff and the side trips are outstanding allowing for more of Italy to be experienced. Enjoyed the week but disappointed in Sandra's tautology of her dislike for the French and for the fact she didn't make the effort to remember people's names. Also, be aware students are given an apron on day 1, but it's not a Toscana Saporita one. If you want an apron with the school's name, it can be purchased. Finally, there is an expectation (pressure, some would say) you will tip staff so bring extra cash.

Dear 'anonymous student' I am sorry that your experience here at the school did not meet your expectations. As you know, this cooking program covers a lot of theory, history and practical hands on lessons. There is no practice without theory first. As you know, our hands on lessons always include: knife skills, fresh egg pastas ( croxetti liguri, pappardelle, agnolotti, ravioli), gnocchi, bechamel sauce, pasta frolla tarts, pizza dough, risotto, tiramisu, cantucci.... There are lessons and recipes that due to the amount made, are better taught through demonstration due to their technicalities such as gelato, pesto, soups and sauces and meats/fish. we do have an advanced and baking program that allow students to be more involved with more hands on activities all day long instead of going on afternoon tours. If that is what you are more interested in, please visit our web page for more information. Also, I am sorry that you did not pick up on my sense of humor when it comes to other cooking cultures outside of our area, AKA France, Venice, Florence, is by no means meant to be offensive as it is meant to be comical, as most students understand. Regarding tipping our staff: students every week always come to me asking how they can reward my staff tip wise. All I do is to make a general suggestion about what has worked with students in the previous weeks. There is no expectation or pressure like you say about that. I am sorry that you felt like you had to do it knowing that i clearly said to everyone in your and every group that tipping is optional. Toscana is Tops!

My wife and I recently made our second trip toToscana Saporita accompanied by two other couples. We returned because our first experience was amazing and we had raved about it to our friends. Eventually they insisted we return along with them! Along with the amazing Sandra and her incredible staff we again had the experience of a lifetime! Aside from learning amazing recipes and (more importantly) methods of Tuscan cooking, we had incredible experiences and excursions to amazing sites in Tuscany! A truffle hunt, complete with a truffle hunting dog, a visit to the leaning tower, seaside resorts Viarreggio and Forte de Marmi, San Gimignano and others gave us an intimate insider's glimpse of the best that Tuscany offers. Nightly gourmet dinners surrounded by the staff and other guests made for connections that can last a lifetime! If you are looking for an Italian Experience that is unmatched, this is it!

So Much More Than a Cooking School!

I have wanted to do a Tuscan cooking school for years; so, when a friend suggested we go to Tuscana Saporita, I was all in. Little did I know that we would learn not only traditional cooking techniques but also the history behind the food we prepared and ate. Sandra and her staff are marvelous chefs, tour guides and companions for the week long journey that includes cooking, eating (a lot!) and exploring the Tuscan towns nearby. There aren't enough stars in the rating system for this experience!!

A Memorable Experience

This September was my third time at Toscana Saporita and I cannot wait to go back! The experience was magnificent ! In addition to learning and "making" many new and delicious foods, Sandra also gives you a history of the food and culture of Italy! Her vibrant personality makes the class a dream! In addition to cooking, and eating wonderful meals, you are also introduced to the many beautiful cities in the Tuscan countryside, with an afternoon visit to the surrounding towns. A memorable experience, to say the least! I am looking forward to a return visit!
