Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We arrived just after 1PM and the site was locked up so we walked up and down the road and decided it was impressive enough to wait until it opened at 2. Deb had a snooze while I caught up on emails and then we went to the entrance just after 2. The site is run by volunteers from the Tuscia Archeology group and the lady that was there was fantastic. She explained about the site and how they had excavated different areas and the sheer size of it before telling us about the history and eventual destruction of the city. It really bought it to life and such passion was lovely to see.

The whole time we were there we were the only visitors which is rather tragic for such a well preserved site. It could certainly do with having a higher profile as we only knew of it due to me browsing Google maps. The theatre is still in use for summer concerts and was designed to seat 3000 people. The bath complex has also been excavated but the rest of the city is on private land so is still buried.

this review is not for the actual theatre, as my husband and i were not actually able to go there. admittedly, we should have done a better job of researching where it actually was but stupidly entered the address on tripadvisor. it will lead you to a random place 20 min outside of viterbo via train. do yourself a favor and google the actual name of the theatre, so you’re not stuck waiting for the train like we are. it’s safe to say we’re thoroughly disappointed and annoyed. we were really excited to see it. waste of a day.

What a site. This one is kept up compared to sites near Citavecchio etc. Just an amazing sight to see and explore. I am glad to see that this one is also clean and kept up. Great staff member who has extensive English handouts although he did not speak a word of English. I would go out of my way to visit this site.

Did you know TwoInMaine has performed on the stage of a 2000-year old Roman theater? And there was no one in the audience? You have got to spend an hour seeing this place. It's easy to miss the turnoff sign for Ferento on the road north of Viterbo. But get a good map or a trusted GPS app and you'll find a nearly-complete theatre with most of the stagehouse, stage, proscenium and orchestra, full array of rising seats, and much of the front arched columns. Alongside are the excavated baths (terme), and even a bathroom for visitors. A story: we arrived to find its gate locked, but the fence was easy to see through and we walked the road to see most of the interior. Then the superintendent showed up with a guy mowing the grass, and asked if we wanted to go in. Well, yes we did. So we had an hour in a Roman theater all to ourselves. Too bad no one got to see our version of "Julius Caesar." Turns out the superintendent wrote the article on the nearby Etruscan tombs in the free booklet at the theater site. Hint: don't try to drive past the Teatro Ferento to the Etruscan tomb site: the road turns into a track and you'll have to back your way out. Hint II: Our Italian helped make this happen, so give the language a try even if you're not very good at it - your effort is appreciated. For us, this will be one of those lifetime memories that no photo can capture.

Visited this site over Easter and we were spoilt with a guided tour in English by Simonetta. What an interesting woman she is. The site desperately needs funds to be able to continue their work . Fascinating history.

Keep up your good work !

Our group of 3 elderly couples staying in a villa near Todi decided to drive ourselves on a little excursion to see the caldera lake at Bolsena followed by the gardens at Villa Lante at Bagnaia. Between the two locations we spotted the 'Teatro Romano di Ferento'. We were the only visitors and then a lady popped out of the small wooden visitor centre, locked it up, unlocked the gate to the site and gave us an enthusiastic and detailed tour of many interesting discoveries. Together with the history of the location and its relationship to the people of Viterbo in bygone days she brought the whole history alive. Back in the hut she gave us a presentation on her laptop of pictures of the site that have been excavated and then reburied to preserve the ancient roman buildings. The literature about the site was in Italian but she has promised me a pdf of the upcoming English version.
We had expected to only have a few glimpses of the ruins through the chicken wire fence. We were thus overjoyed to have such a lovely lady share her knowledge with us. There is no 'entry charge' but there's a box for voluntary donations. A really worthy cause to support.
