Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a spectacular Duomo in Agrigento and is one of the main site in the town. Highly recommended for its interior. Architecturally stunning.

An impressive interior. Worth getting the ticket that includes Santa Maria deli Grecci and the museum. It's a long old hike up there so worth noting it closes between 1.30 and 4.00 most days.

We thought this would a beautiful church, but this was even more interesting than what we expected. For us the stand out features were the ceilings and the sculpture.

The Duomo was built at the highest point in Agrigento in the late 11th century. Unfortunately, it is also a geologically unstable site, so it has been undergoing almost constant repair. That explains the evolution of the design elements.

The Normans chose to build the Duomo at the highest point in Agrigento in the highest and Western part of the Girgenti hill. They built the Cathedral quickly (1087-1094), but the Normans didn`t understand the Geology and the construction site created and creates many problems for the Cathedral. Earthquakes and subsequent landslides create a permanent threat of destruction of the Cathedral. Even St. Gerland, the first Archbishop of Agrigento, who came here from Burgundy, doesn`t save from landslides. But according to the Catholics of Agrigento, the fight against the natural elements is the main specialization of Saint Gerland. The Cathedral is permanently under reconstruction. The last one just ended in 2019. The entrance to the Cathedral is paid (3 euros), but I went in after a few morning mass and was not charged money, although I think I don`t look like a good Catholic...

At the top of the hill in the town is a magnificent Duomo that is worth every step you take to get to it. It's actually about five sacred sites/time periods rolled into one which the architecture clearly shows. I liked it because it wasn't too big - you could get your head around this one - for me anyway. And after you've seen the inside the view outside is outstanding, a must visit if you are in Agrigento.

We apparently took the wrong way to walk up to the Duomo as it was extremely hilly the way we took so the trek was arduous. Then it was extremely disappointing that when I reached the top of the hill, the Duomo was closed. When I see the photos of the Duomo, it looks amazing so that makes it even more disappointing.

Yes, it was €4 to enter and I do not normally like paying to enter a church but this time I felt it was worth it. Beautifully restored, especially the gorgeous ceiling which you could go upstairs to see up close. Good view of Agrigento also from the top plus a visit to see the bells. Finally down the street to see the cathedral treasures which was included in the price with very detailed descriptions of the exhibits in various languages via an ipad. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Visited this today, a gentle stroll to the top of the hill(in this town, there are stairs and stairs and stairs..😋) and came to this cathedral. The view from dovn below is amazing..but when you enter, it takes your breath away. The fee is 3€,and you get to visit the church and the bell tower.
The church is realy nice, realy spacious and not overly decorated, and the cealing is just incredible. Such details, such artistry..great.
Then we went to the tover..and arived on a balcony in the moment of sunset..and you see everythig.
A few more steps..and you are amongs the bels, with a view that is simply stunning..360 dgr.view..and you are on the highest point - realy great.
Then, the walk to the rose and a close up look at the cealing..never been so "behind the scenes" in a church before, a realy unique experience.
Well worth the time and money..😊

This was not my first visit to a cathedral in Italy, but it was absolutely one of the best. The ceiling is breathtaking, both in the main hall and the aspes at the end of the naves. The art is gorgeous, and so well-done. The best part is the fact that you can go up to both the bell tower and the rose window. The steps are a bit steep, and very narrow, but if you can make it up them, the view of Agrigento from the belltower is worth the price. Absolutely worth the climb.
