I’m sorry, but I have no idea, as we travelled to Hadrian's Wall by car and only visited one short part of it.

It's a few KMs through farm. the walk isn"t difficult.

Hi Stewart, well the easiest is Hexham. The Cathedral there is built with stones from the wall, it's also a good place to pick up the AD122 bus (from Easter 2020). Haltwhistle railway station is close (ish) to Turret 41a, Bardon Mill railway station is very close to Vindolanda and the Sycamore Gap. Heddon-on-the-Wall is close (ish) to Wylam railway station, But the easest is Corbridge railway station, which is near Corbridge Roman town. I can also recommend English Heritage website for simple background information in regards to locations. Best of luck on your adventure to the limits of empire.

Hi Andy It’s better to walk the Wall from west to east (so the prevailing westerly winds are behind you). That all depends where you want to go. There are admission fees into Birdoswald, Carvoran, Housesteads, Vindolanda and Chesters, and fees payable at several of the car parks. No charge for parking at Banks Turret though. If you want a guided tour, I suggest you look at hadrianswallcountry website and choose a guide from there. Good luck with your plans!

I’m sorry but I can’t help you there. It’s very hard to walk as it’s a very long wall and will take you days to see it. Hire a car? I’m not sure if they do half day tours from Carlisle but I am sure you will find something . Best of luck and I hope you get there as it is an amazing sight.

That all depends on how much you want to understand the Wall. It's much more than just a wall - and contains a series of military fortifications not only along the Wall but across it serving as part of a military zone. You will get more out of your visit if you hire a guide. For a good general introduction with a guide, allow one full day. For an introduction and a walk along the central section combined with a visit to Vindolanda, allow 2 days. Hope this helps!
