Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Hatsvali cable cars ride starts from Mestia in the city center. First it takes you to Hatsvali lower station then to panoramic Cafe Zuruldi which is located on the level of 2,340m and has great views over Caucasus summits – Devil 2-headed Ushba and snow white pricess Tetnuldi. Note that I went there in September, when there was no snow, so you go for the views only. They are worth it.

Only half of the ride is available, yet they still charge the the whole fare (even for the one way ride), which by the way is very high (20 GEL) for Georgian standards. Utterly disappointing.

We took the cable car lifts, in 2 stages up to the lodge at the top. Month of May, and the weather was lovely although there was still plenty of snow at the peak. No lines, no big crowds. Lovely outing.

We took the cable car on the 15th August, with excellent sunny weather. It was opened only from the second level up. On the way up, it stopped several times, probably due to people not being able to properly get on and off, with no staff helping them out. Thus meant the journey took longer and we had to reduce the time on the top. Then the cable car stops between 2 and 3 o'clock. There was a huge queue to go down at 3, and after 40 minutes they announced the cable car was closed due to some issues. Staff did not spoke English and no one helped us understand what was going on or how to go down on foot. This resulted in 2 hours walking down, followed by hitching to Mestia. So, be prepared for problems and leave aside at least 3 hours to go up, walk to the last transmitter and enjoy the amazing views, and go back down. Views are really incredible on the top and the walk to the transmitters is easy and takes about 1 hour one way.

The views are wordelful, but the management of the lift is awful. The huge queues take forever as not all seats are taken and people are allowed to sneak in. Strategy to keep people at the restaurants? Friends have priority? A shame.
Go early in the morning and might be able to go up and down quickly. Otherwise you'll be stuck for the day. In addition they have a break for lunch

This little comfortable trip is the best idea to do if either you’re not (yet) keen on hiking / want to get an overview of the surrounding valleys and mountains / you’re short on your days in Mestia and want to make the best of it/ or similar ..
The experience really crushes it all, such a fantastic panoramic view you will probably not forget for a while.. super cheap to get up there and it is even fun - 15 GEL per person to take both lifts both ways.
On the top you can even walk a bit on the ridge, very comfortably, it is not overcrowded and you can really just take the time and enjoy admiring the majestic landscape around you.
Mind the only thing: last lift is going down at 5 p.m. if I am not mistaken so if you miss that you will probably end up walking down the mountain- which is nice too!

Absolutely great view from the restaurant at the top, must do if you are in Mestia. Its a two stage ski lift costing 15 gel per head for a round trip. Cable car station is about 1 km from the Mestia center, just after the Svenati Museum, It is marked as 'Hatsvali bottom lift station' in google map.

So yes.... Just go
Especially if you have 1 day Mestia
We think that this is the best place in the area (we went to the glacier and Ushguly, and I would pass on both but not on that :) )

The chair lift from near the museum in Mestia climbs about 1000m in two stages. The views from the top at 2340m are stunning especially across to Ushiba mountain. Great place for a potter about and if you have finished a longer trek the day before its shear bliss to climb without effort and get a beer or a tea at the top
Loved it.
