    Excellent guided tour
Certainly the way to explore the history of this beautiful city, using quieter streets as well as the main sights. Our guide was excellent and passionate about her city. The stories/ myths added to the enjoyment. Woul certainly recommend

    Head for the Sequoia Trees
The gardens are quite small and apart from the two magnificent sequoia trees, there is not much to see. Its tranquil and relaxing but there are few park benches to sit and enjoy a break from the town. Its well maintain but a little underwhelming.

    Not a great visit.
We regularly visit gardens at home in the UK but this garden was rather disappointing. The trees we saw were interesting but we were plagued by biting insects and the garden had limited colour. You can get reasonable views of the gardens from the city wall without paying an entrance fee. We left early as my daughter was very distressed by seeing the terrapins in the pond eating a hedgehog. They need ramps to enable hedgehogs to get out or low level fencing to stop them falling in. I'd stick to viewing the beautiful buildings in Lucca.

Not worth the 6€ per adult to visit the gardens. A lot of the plants required dead-heading, pruning. All quite tired, and run down.

The best place and experience in town.
Magnificent green to relax and listen to the wonderful music, and perfect for this place, of a special pianist who a short distance away gladdens the visit with his perfect music for the walls and the botanical garden!

We enjoyed visiting the botanical gardens and seeing some plants unfamiliar to us in California. The grounds, though compact, have a delightful assortment of plants and statuary. A nice thing to do on a pleasant day.

Lovely gardens but not a lot to really talk about here. Interesting plants and some nice sculptures but not a lot of interesting features or areas to explore.

More people need to visit as it is a sadly neglected place in Lucca. The beautiful and historic botanical gardens were founded by Maria Luisa of Bourbon over 200 years ago in 1820. There is a magnificent Cedar of Lebanon that dates from 1822.

We had a few hours to kill as our EasyJet flight back to London Gatwick was not until 6 pm and we had left our Hotel in Livorno at just after 10 am! We parked about 800 metres away and spent a very lazy 3 hours 40 mins looking at literally everything in the splendid gardens - the oldest botanical gardens in Europe. The ticket cost only 4 euros each and my wife thoroughly enjoyed these amazing plants and trees - some were around when the dinosaurs ruled the Earth.

I visited with an art group to draw the plants and trees. It's a lovely shaded garden and I was interested in the medicinal plants garden area, which is very well labelled and explained. There are some beautiful ancient trees too.
