About
Situated inside Palazzo Boccella, in the centre of the city, the museum of modern and contemporary art Lu.C.C.A. is an innovative museum project, a multipurpose structure with an international appeal that is at the same time a container of works of art, an educational space, but also a place to be lived every day. A museum designed for people and with people, where emotional involvement, entertainment and socialization are as just as important as the artistic project itself.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

€10 EACH ENTRY FEE and it was not worth even half of that - yes the photographice exhibition was interesting and with about 100+ photographs . And yes there was an exhibition of Sculpture but not to my taste at all - and as I said :
Poor Poor Poor - you will be after your visit . . . . .

better of as a couple going for a nice sharing platter and 2 drinks in the lovley Piazza San Francesco just a block away

We were wanting to see some art galleries in Italy but hadn't managed to get to any of the major ones for various reasons. Our last morning was spent in Lucca and we noticed this gallery advertised as one of the "Things to do in Lucca".

For the Eu10 entry fee we were treated to two exhibitions across three floors of a lovely building near to the central piazza.

We would definitely recommend this as a different type of stop to what you'd normally expect in Lucca.

We didn't try the Facebook option for information about each painting.

There is a lift (elevator) between floors if stairs are not for you.

Visited an excibition of creations v by F Depero. Great display. The building is also interesting in itself. Would come back for another excibition.

Enjoyed the five stories of the historical Bocella Palace and the nice exhibition. The photos especially the Americans are good.

We visited for the Henri Cartier-Bresson exhibit and thoroughly enjoyed it. The museum is small but well organized and it was a great way to spend an hour or two in the elegant atmosphere. The descriptions were in Italian and English and the photos were accessible and we learned a lot about the photographer. would definitely recommend it for any art lover visited Lucca.

I never miss the chance to visit the Center of Contemporary Art, located in the five-stories historical Bocella Palace in the center of the city. It is an excellent center with marvelous, carefully planned and perfectly executed exhibitions. The last I saw, the one dealing with the photos of Henri Cartier-Bresson from America, was not an exception. I can highly recommend the exhibition and the visit to the center.

Before going to Lucca I checked the what's on pages and found that the Center of Contemporary Art (LuCCA) was showing an exhibition of Henri Cartier-Bresson's photographs of America. We made a bee line from the car park to the museum and were soon absorbed by the black and white images taken during visits from the 1940s to the early 1970s. There are photos of people in the south, in Washington and New York City as well as portraits of such worthies as Martin Luther King, Marilyn Monroe and the physicist Robert Oppenheimer (who famously quoted from the Bhagavad Gita: "I am become death, the destroyer of worlds", when the first atomic bomb was tested in July 1945). The LuCCA team have done a good job displaying the photos on two floors of the pleasant building and I would highly recommend taking time to take a look.

Saw a wonderful exhibit of his American photographs taken in the 1950's and 1960's. Don't miss going downstairs to see the murals that were uncovered there.

Since its opening in 2009, the museum has been organising a great variety of first class contemporary art displays. I visited in February 2017 to see the exhibition ''WARHOL vs GARTEL. HYP POP”, marking 30 years since Andy Warhol's death.

We have visit this museum every time we visit Lucca. There is always a well curated modern art show, often photography. Most recent show featured and excellent selection of Robert Doisneau's work, with detailed and informative curatorial notes.
