About
The ancient Flavian Amphitheater was built by the Flavian emperors in 70 C.E. as a gift to the Roman people. As the largest Roman theater ever built, it was designed to house over 50,000 people, and had played host to gladiator games, plays and even public executions. Purchase skip-the-line tickets online to avoid long lines at the door, or join guided tours which allow for special access to restricted areas. While here, you might want to visit the adjacent Palatine Hill and Roman Forum as well. – Tripadvisor

    Two simple steps
So much distraction when you look online. The simple approach is 1) to book online direct with the coliseum 2) decide if you want to join a guided group ( book then or there’ll be no space when you arrive) or Hire a ( 6 euro) audio visual guide . We chose this this time. A good guide with movie clips pictures and commentary. Easy to swap and share for two people. Having info absolutely improves your visit. I enjoyed a human guide but now prefer the audio visual ( cheaper more flexible) and it’s so easy to eavesdrop the constant guides! We went in March, no queues this time. Entry went well but it still feels chaotic.Only toilet I saw is at the start

    Seeing history close up.
Really great bit of history, bin meaning to visit after walking by on a previous tour. We’ll worth upgrading as well as you get to go into the underground caverns and end up in the area. We’ll worth the time and cost.

    Book early in the morning
Honestly not world wonder as I expected. Maybe I expect too much, but for me, some place like this, with such a huge history, shouldn't have toilets inside, offices and something like that. It's just offending really and ruining this place. Also, people left garbage on walls and corners and maybe they need to pay more atention on this, and charge some fees for this. Of course, it's worth visiting, but for me it's more beatiful from outside, and view from Colloseo to Forum is great. If you have little kids, avoid stroller if you can, and you can bring backpacks, evet though a lot of people write that it's forbiden

    It's a MUST to visit
WOW WOW WOW, this is a must. In hindsigh, I wish I'd gone with the tour guide, mainly because they really captured my imagination when I listened to them talking to their tour group. Really, really busy after midday, so it's better to go early if you can. Book your tickets to, for fast track, as you'll spend hours in the queues. Underground looks good, but to be fair, you can see better from the arena down into the underground.

    Must see while in Rome
We booked a skip the line tour and were able to walk right in at our time slot. Was double the money but lucky we did as all tickets were sold out for the day. Very crowded but great to see. We also paid $6 extra to get the Audio headset. Otherwise, we would have had no idea what we were seeing.

    A must do visit
We ordered tickets online so picked them up close by which gave us skip the queue access which was handy as very busy. We chose not to have a guided or audio tour as we like to go at own pace. We found this place fascinating. Some steep steps up to take in views on upper levels which were amazing. We then moved on to the Forum and Palatine Hill and again did this at our own pace with no guide. We got the 3 venues on the 1 ticket. Overall a worth while place to visit and make sure book in advance as queues are long.

An architectural masterpiece. Its grand staircases, ancient history and impressive design are unparalleled
It's a must-see for anyone looking to experience the grandeur of the Roman Empire. From the outside, the Colosseum is an impressive sight, with its giant arches and columns, and the interior is even more stunning. The sheer scale of the structure is awe-inspiring, and its ancient history adds to its grandeur. Its impressive design and grand staircases make for a truly unforgettable experience. Colosseum Italy is a must-see for anyone looking to experience the grandeur of the Roman Empire.

    A highlight of our trip!
Myself, my mother and my two young adult daughters did the Women of Rome Colosseum tour. The tour was amazing! Our guide Michael (a brilliant lovely woman named for her grandfather) was patient, funny and very informative. She was extremely knowledgeable and was clearly passionate about the subject. We learned so much from her: my daughters were especially moved by the story of the vestal virgins! She really brought the lives of these ancient women to life! It was a highlight of our trip!

    Must-see
If seeing the Colosseum from the outside already leaves you amazed, you have no idea of how it is from the inside. Definitely is a must-see when in Rome. Try to visit it as early as possible to avoid the crowd and hot weather (if visiting during summer). You will need to book the ticket in advance through the website. It is free every first Sunday of the month. (in this case you cannot book it, just collect the ticket directly at the ticket office on the day of the visit). The ticket allows you to visit also the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Allow at least half a day to visit both, a guide or audio guide is recommended. Wear comfortable shoes.

The chance of a life time! My daughter booked a night visit and so worth it. Excellent tour guide who took care to inform us of every aspect of the Colosseum, taking time to answer any questions other visitors had. No words can describe such a visit. So worth it.

It’s a must see and, as you would expect, it is very busy.
Very few toilet facilities in the immediate vicinity and the very limited ones inside are always busy and also pretty grim!

We did the full underground tour which is well worth it to get a real feel for the place and understand the history including the hospital and training ground places (ludus Magnus) and how they were used.

We had plenty of time and were pleased we had our guide re just navigating the queues to get in! Well worth getting a guide.

lovely place

It's in a bit of a bad state but we have to think that it's been there for over 2000 years.

We got the Full experience ticket lasting for two consecutive days, valid for Colloseum and Forum Romanum. Thanks to some computing glitch, the first attempt to buy tickets had money "reserved", no tickets arrived into my email. second attempt was a success. i have yet to check if i was charged twice (i think not, as the ticket provider stated so).

full experience ticket had access to arena. alternatively, you could get tickets to the underground or the spectator space.

You largely pay for the engaging moment when you enter the arena. then, you snake through the crowds towards exit and the colloseum spits you out back into the crowds of tourists and dinghy people trying to sell you a tour of colloseum.

Steeped in history and a must see for anyone that loves that era (gore and all)

Just remember to bring your passport of some form of ID as we wasn’t aware of this

Also there are lots of steep steps

Just watch out if your booked and there are a lot of tours about as they just seem to steam ahead without any regards to those who are enjoying at their own leisure

Also if you want to walk around the underground you need to pay for this so check your tickets include this. If not there are ticket booths indoors

Other than that it was good to walk around and take in the history

One of the world greatest attractions. But do yourself a favour. Buy your tickets in advance. I would also recommend you buy both the level 1 and 2 and the main floor. Get the audio guide. The one you download is not much good.

We booked a tour, but the guide didn't take into account anyone with disabilities so we struggled to keep up with him. We ended the tour with him 1 hour before the end and looked round ourselves. He didn't give us chance to look at points of interest he just talked then carried on walking. Very disappointed but the place itself is amazing

An iconic place to see. Our guide talked too fast, walked too fast, did not check when the group got separated from her. Some of us could not understand her English. Overwhelmed with the amount of information that was given at such a frantic pace.

Not exactly that exciting. No washrooms in the entire place. How is it possible an international tourist attraction has no toilets.
