- Dwayne CJacksonville, Florida188 contributionsVibrant energy, the gateway to everything.Piazza Tasso in Sorrento is the center of activity. From the train station to the ferry port, to the cab row, everything meets in the Pia Tasso. Every street or alleyway off of the piazza has shops, restaurants and bars. A meeting place for locals and an adventure for travelers. Saturday and Sundays are usually crowded, groups of men talking about politics, the weather, or the group of donne talking about the men nearby.. I spent 10 days in Sorrento and every day I spent time enjoying the energy of Pia Tasso.. Take time, sit and relax.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 10 April 2023
- DebsiCentral District, Israel4 contributionsHub of SorrentoWe had a great time hanging in the piazza eating gelato and people watching. The stairs to the ferry are here and the bus going down to the port is a block away. The market begins here and cordon Italian runs through the square. One big fun place.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 April 2023

Several bars can be found here, as well as views of this gorge-like road and statues of Tasso himself. If you can get yourself here, it makes it very easy to explore the rest of Sorrento.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 11 July 2023
- Kapil SoodBengaluru, India168 contributionsFun place in the eveningHad a wonderful time every evening in this piazza. Very lively and fun place to raise your spirits. Great views of the sea as well. For shopping and window shopping just strolling on the lanes near this piazza is so much fun. Courtesy this experience Sorrento turned out to be much better than what we had expected.Visited June 2023Written 27 July 2023
- phat_dawg_21Alpharetta, Georgia13,464 contributionsCrossroads of the VillageThis high energy piazza is the place where it all comes together. You can go east or west on Corso Italian where you will find upscale shops, or swerve north onto Via San Cesareo and follow it into the Centro Storico, and get lost in the maze of narrow streets lined with small shops selling trinkets to tourists. Traffic can be heavy in the center with cars and scooters trying to get through. Around the edges you will find many restaurants and cafés where you can sit with a beverage and just enjoy the people watching.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 August 2023
- CarolinaNurse323Kernersville, North Carolina6,196 contributions"A great place to Rest, Relax, Refresh & People Watch!!"This is a busy Piazza which is filled with beautiful and colorful shops, multiple restaurants, bars & pubs, churches, sightseeing spots, carriage rides, and hotels plus all having access to the Marina and train station. There are lemon trees and lemon gardens in abundance and the favorite drink of Sorrento, Limoncello can be found everywhere!! There is main hub called Corso Italia where you can indulge enjoying delicious treats like gelato, shop until you drop, food galore or just relaxing in the park to rest & refresh. The Bell Tower is in the center and a focal point to remembering your location. My husband & I simply love visiting Sorrento and it is a great base to use to explore the other great places like Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, Capri or Anacapri. The ferry ticket office is down by the Marina and it is easy and fairly reasonable to buy tickets for a day trip to any of these destinations. We have done this on several trips to Sorrento and plan to do it again when we visit again.Visited October 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 September 2023
- eve r186 contributionsPerfect oOur hotel ran a shuttle bus so we were able to venture into the town most days . Lots of good restaurants and shops and bars , my 21 year old son was very happy to discover the F 1 merchandise shop which became an expensive habit . I loved the souvenir and clothing shops which were very reasonable. A visit to both marinas is a must and within walking distance of the town, the smaller one has some lovely sea food restaurants . It was still very warm even in September so could be uncomfortable to walk about in the warmer summer months as it’s a very busy town but we loved the vibe and would definitely return .Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 23 September 2023

We took a ferry from Naples to Sorrento. It was a pleasant short ride. On arrival we were quite stunned to see that the old town is situated quite high up. We followed the crowd, walked for a short distance to the right and joined a queue to take a lift (small fee for use of lift) up to the street level.
There is a viewing terrace at the Villa Comunale Park, which is a short distance from the lift landing area. You get a breathtaking view of the gulf, the beach and the blue sky. There is also an option to walk up the stairs from the Marina to the Villa Comunale Park, which I will not recommend.
From the Villa Comunale Park we walked to the Piazza Sant Antonio, which is a pretty little square. Piazza Tasso is just a short walk from Piazza Sant Antonio.
From the road bridge at Piazza Tasso, we were rewarded with a stunning view to the Gulf of Naples looking through a steep cliff face as if someone had just sliced away part of the hill. It was just breathtaking!
Sorrento is a charming small town. Not as busy and crowded as Naples. We used it as a stopover to take a bus to Amalfi not knowing that it deserves more time to explore.
We would love to return another time and will spend a night at Sorrento.

Piazza Tasso is the central public square of Sorrento, the Lemon Capital of Italy. Peculiarly, although named after the poet Torquato Tasso, it is the statue of Antonino, the patron saint of Sorrento, that stood at the centre of the square. Surrounding the square are several historic buildings including the Palazzo Correale and Baroque Church of Santa Maria del Carmine. An unmissable feature while you're exploring the square is the viewing terrace with its spectacular view of the gorge cut by the road to Marina Piccola below, with the Gulf of Naples in the background.

Sorrento is magical. In October we only visited for a couple of hours but i felt in love to the point that i'm going again in May and staying 3 nights. Get your wallet ready and be prepared to shop and eat. The views are also incredible so for sure visit and plan to stay for a couple of days since there is enough to see.

This is a scenic piazza in Sorrento with restaurants, bars and shops. There’s also a scenic overlook nearby. Everything in Sorrento is within walking distance. Easy to get to by car or train. Just a gorgeous town that we fell in love with.

Lot's to see and do here at the center of town. There is a staircase to the bottom by the sea and there are many narrow streets with so many shops and small restaurants. It's a pleasure to wander around.

The plaza is open and spacious and the traffic is tamed by a number of pedestrian only streets that feed into it. The overlook down to the sea is not to be missed since Sorrento sits on a chasm that is divided in half. The restaurants that surround the plaza are very good, filled with tourists who all speak English, and serve food that is not overpriced. Go and enjoy the scene.

We did not go as elderly and also disabled. Shame though and we did not budget for taxis. Sorry
Are there any clubs or nightlife around sorento? Also is it gay friendly? 😊

Yes, plenty of places there and within a short walking distance. It is the central square, spoilt for choice for eating and drinking. Central Sorrento is fairly compact. Easy to get about. We did not go to any clubs, so cannot give a specific recommendation.

Sorrento has no beaches, only board decking areas which are large and for 2 of us for 1 day with beds etc was 30 euoros. There is a tiny public area free but.....Sorrento is nice lots of eateries and bars etc. We were there for 1 week which is more then enough, then onto Amalfi for 3 days which is also more then enough. Naples for 4 days which we good for the airport. The Amalfi area is beautiful, we stayed in Amalifi. I would watch where you stay if you are out of town you may have a trek into town. Some of the places I looked at in Amalfi looked fab but remote so watch out. Same as Sorrento, we stayed in the center in both. Naples is a large dirty city, interesting enough but if you dont have a need I would look elsewhere, we stayed 4 days, 2 was enough. Capri is worth the visit, do the cable car. Pompei and Vesuvius are good and must be done. Ischi island is also worth a visit, I though better than Capri. Take a size up in clothes as the Pizza is lovley and cheap. I could go on so any specific question let me know and If I can help I will.

YEs take the train at Sorrento station..probably it will take you less than 20 minutes... the name of the station u have to get down.. is Hercolaneum and there a bus will take you to the Vesuvius.. but check the ruins first.. at Herculaneum..same train takes you to Pompeii..just in a few minutes.. for the ruins.. I hired a guide..but I hired one as I wanted to see the frescoes at thebordello and they didnt do it becasue some parts are open in the afternoon..dedicate the whole day to the area..you can do it by train in minutes

I'm going to be in Rome for a few days and then going to Sorrento for 5 days. We will go to Capri, take the train to Pompeii and the bus along the Amalfi coast. Then will fly out of Naples. Do you think we should rent a car when we leave Rome while we are in the Sorrento area?

just got back from 11 nights stay in Sorrento. I certainly wouldn't drive there. It's crazy! The tour guide we had for Pompei said there's a saying in Italy, "after me, everyone is first". She was referring to the queuing etiquette (or lack of it) but driving appeared to have the same rules. We took the trains to Pompei and Herculaneum. They're cheap and efficient but quite busy and hot. The bus along to Amalfi is quite hair-raising as I understand it. We opted for the ferry which was a very pleasant experience ...and cool/refreshing. Hope you have a lovely holiday/vacation there.
