The hike to the top of Jeroni Mountain was a very intense experience. The beginning of the hiking trail is in the area of the Montserrat monastery. It took a while to find it. But if you start coming from the parking lot, you need to walk to the end of the road, you will pass the tourist information kiosk and the entrance to the monastery courtyard. There are stairs straight ahead at the end of the road. You have to climb them and then just follow the signs. The hiking trail was very well marked. There are different trails, we took trail number one as we wanted to go out to the highest peak. It took 1 hour and 45 minutes to reach the top, we came down about 1 hour and 5 minutes. The trail is not the easiest, because it mostly goes uphill, and some of the climbs are quite steep. The terrain was very varied - stairs, paved road, stones, forest road, etc. But the views were really amazing, especially when you got to the top. It was a really amazing experience. We went there in October and the wind was extremely strong, so you have to think about your clothes, it's definitely very hot in the summer and the sun is shining. Parking costs €7 in the area of the monastery. You can also leave it on the side of the road for free, but then you have to walk about 2 km from there to the starting point of the hiking trail.

The trek from Montserrat monastery to Sant Jeroni was about 10.5km and it took us about 4 hrs to complete it. It was a challenge getting up and down. But it was all worth it. The view was breathtaking and spectacular! No regrets!

Sant Jeroni is the highest peak in Montserrat Mountains, in Bages Region (center of Catalonia), 30km far from Barcelona. It is a great point of views, from where you can see a lot of mountains with curious shapes and the surroundings. Fantastic place as lookout and a pic-nic spot, where a lot of people lunch. Also, the trekking from Monastery (or from the town of Monistrol de Montserrat, in the bottom of the mountain) to Sant Jeroni is one of the most know excursions in Montserrat and really a lovely place, where you can see probably the most curious shapes. The typical place, where you can go with your friends, who lives in other countries.

We hiked up to Saint Jeroni from the Monastery of Monserrat. The times listed in the hiking guide are true for fast walkers. If you want to take your time add another 30 minutes each way.

The hike is worth the effort. There are amazing views along the way and the pinnacle is breathtaking.

Montserrat is a great place to visit stuck high above some sheer cliffs. But very touristic and crowded. You get there by a 35 minute train ride from Barcelona, then take a cog railway or aerial cable car to get up to the monastery itself. You can also hike up there from the train station at the bottom if you are in decent shape.

But once you are there, you can escape the crowds by hiking further up, to the top of St. Jeroni.

Looking at the cylindrical rock with sheer cliffs, you cannot imagine how you could climb it, but there is a trail to the top that is not that difficult or frightening (no drop-offs).

The view back towards Barcelona and the Catalan countryside is well worth the effort required to get there. Very few people who visit Montserrat will hike beyond the monastery, so be the exception and just do it. The trail is well-marked.

Allow at least three hours up and back from the Monastery.

I've spent about 4 hours riding my bike through this area and it is really stunning! Coming from the city centre you hardly have to go onto the streets, there are so many cycle lanes which makes it easy. Once in the area though, there are some ways that are blocked for cycling (officially). Nonetheless, it's a beautiful place to get a little 'lost' and wander around. Great views across the city and I def go there again!

We took the Funicular the views from the top of the mountain is breathtakingly beautiful, there is so many different walks you can do here depending on your time limits and ability , the terrain is pretty rough in patches so advisable to wear comfort and appropriate footwear, and also warm clothing as it get cold the higher you go, but even if walking is out, it’s nice to visit just for the views alone.

When the clouds lift that is. Take the green funicular train not the cable car, the train from Espanya Station has limited seating. We hiked the Sant Jeroni trail, the longer route up to 1236 m. The trail is concrete and well packed dirt, many switchbacks so moderate climbing required. The shorter St. Joan trail starting at the base of the so-named funicular runs by the Creu St. Miquel with nice views of the valley. Don’t bother trying to get a free ride down! All can be done in one day trip.
