What a wonderful step back in time!
jan 2020
MyFriend did a lot of research on what we should visit Barcelona in January. Since we love seeing all types of stores she said this was the oldest one in Barcelona so we should include it on our visit. The people in the store were absolutely lovely you can try all types of dried nuts and smell the coffee. It’s about time that I opened up my coffee and remember all the fun I had in Barcelona before the virus.

The shop that revitalize your tastebuds
feb 2019 • Priatelia
I was there with my friend last week. We just walked there without knowing where we were. The shop, however caught my friend’s eyes so we stopped by.
It was the most wondering thing in my whole trip to Barcelona to walk into the shop I have to admit!!

I’m not a big fan of seeds, nuts. BUT, I ended up buying a box of Carquinylis and a jar of nuts. Even though I came on a budget airline and really had no space for any more food in my luggage, I felt I would regret it if not buy any.

Now I’m sitting in front of my computer, having a sip of hot black tea and with the caramel flavored nuts at hand. It’s heaven. Guys, go buy a jar of nuts - it’s soooo good and so worth it.

As a Taiwanese tourist I also enjoyed my little chat with one of the staff in the shop (wink!).

The best nuts and dried fruit in Barcelona
nov 2018 • Sólo
If you’re looking for some great gourmet food, give this place a try. The have a huge assortment of roasted nuts, dried fruits, saffron, and olive oils. Every kind of dried fruit is available; they are much softer, fresher, and better tasting than anywhere else.

The real draw here is they’ve been in operation for 150 years, and still use the same oven to roast the nuts. If you have a chance, go to the back of the store and check out the oven. It still works and is worth a look.

The dried fruit is out of this world. The dried peaches are probably the softest, most natural tasting dried fruit I’ve ever had. The nuts are delicious too, with many varieties to choose.

Their saffron, while not the cheapest, is very high quality and from the best sources in Spain. This place is a gem and has a landmark plaque embedded in the street to signify it’s been in business for many, many years.

Casa Gispert was a perfect stop on our Devour Tours food tour. Head to the back of the store and turn left and you’ll see the tall stack of wood used to fuel the roaster that’s right there in the store. We went back later to have a more thorough look around and bought several bags of roasted almonds. I’m now home and just finished my last bag and wish I’d filled my suitcase with these delicious morsels! Can’t possibly create the same flavour roasting in your oven and I dislike a strong smoky taste and these are just perfect. Lots more to temp me in this store but I restrained myself. WHY? Big mistake!

Lovely store in the historic and trendy El Born
jan 2018 • Páry
While walking around El Born, we passed by Casa Gilbert. We could not resist and had to enter.

Their collection of dried fruits, preserved fruits, spices, oils and vinegars is awesome. The products are organized in rustic shelves and boxes that take you back in time.

We got the baby dry figs and the Israeli dates. The figs figs were sweet and soft. The dates were huge, extremely soft and not as sweet as one would expect. We loved them and plan to return to Casa Gispert every time we go to Barcelona

Cute and quaint

I loved the old fashioned feel of this shop. All of the dried fruits and nuts were beautifully displayed and of a really good quality. The spices were great too....I’ve stocked up on paprika and saffron. I wish I had bought more since the prices are so reasonable.

Wish I'd bought more
dec 2017 • Rodinné
Wonderful old shop. The sales girl was friendly and gave us samples of the almonds she'd just roasted. We bought some of the pulverones (what we call pecan crescents in the South, but these are made with almonds and cinnamon) but we ended up eating them all and wishing we'd bought more, lots more, to give as gifts because not only are they delicious but they come individually wrapped and even the bag is neat with the store's name and crest on it.
