Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We enjoyed a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere on our first (so far) visit here. It's a small establishment but has a good selection of ales and some wine, etc, for the non-ale drinkers. The décor is eclectic, giving it a characterful charm that underpins the aim of its existence but also adds to the whole atmosphere that encourages conversation among regulars and newcomers alike. Dog friendly too. Regrettably, the weather wasn't suited to sitting out on the barrels and casks outside.

Nice to have this establishment and Ya Bard so close: no more than 5 minutes from each other. Both are definitely recommended even if we had to wait until 3pm for opening! Not far from the centre of Stratford - an easy and flat walk.

Enjoyed sampling the four distinctive ales on offer during a midweek, afternoon visit prior to an evening meal out. Nice atmosphere, friendly but not intrusive locals. Will definitely visit again next time we’re in Stratford.

Good, albeit small (4 when we were there) selection of cask beers, and extensive range of craft beers in the fridges. Staff very knowledgeable and able to recommend the perfect beer for my wife with some vague pointers.

Seating outside on empty barrels with cushions on (lovely in the sun).

All very compact and cosy, nice environment, and just a minute or so's walk from the Rother Street marketplace at the top of town.

A popper micro pub. Small and friendly with some great ales. If you like real ales then you need to visit here --- but then you already know that don't you !! Cause that is why you are searching reviews for real ale.

Lovely micropub fairly centrally positioned.
Really friendly locals, four excellent cask beers from independent breweries and a decent craft can fridge.

Landlord fits in well with the dry but friendly banter which makes the place.

Highly recommended if you like good beer.

Unlike many (in my view) overhyped micropubs this one is the real deal.
Quality drinks and always a friendly conversation to be had.
Highly recommended.

Good beer. Very friendly barman and atmosphere. Shame about the TV especially as it says on their website that they don't have one. That ruined the atmosphere for me.

Called in here to see what tasty beers were on and it did not disappoint. It is a very busy place, lots of men with dogs that probably say they are popping out for a walk and end up in here ! Anyhow, enjoyed visit, would go again.

Good informal beer bar ruined by yappy loud, uncontrolled dogs.great real ale bar with many and varied beers served with very friendly staff and knowledgeable Batman. Great variety of rotating beers .

Sadly ruined by cacophony of yapping uncontrolled dogs barking and yapping incessantly . Without them this would be a 5 star place but otherwise like drinking in a dogs home. 😁

Came across this brilliant pub, Stratford Ale House by chance and certainly wasn't disappointed. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and excellent ales. Very well worth popping in if your in the area. We need more of these independent places where staff/owners take a pride in doing the basics exceptionally well.
