Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife’s mother went to school at Castello di Compiano in the late 1930s/early 1940s, so it is even more special to us. We LOVE the music events held in this medieval hill town in the summer. The restaurant is wonderful and the staff are so friendly. The food is superb. One can never go wrong with the Italian wine, of course. The tranquil views of the valley below and our generations-owned Italian home across the Taro in Isola di Compiano restore the heart. Life is good here! We have never stayed in the Castle’s hotel but we have met people who have. They all enjoyed their stays and accommodations. This area is a true hidden gem of Italy, so warm and welcoming.

For beautiful drone footage of this area go to YouTube and search on this term: “Isola di Compiano” (the first return will be from Alatna Media’s channel; they have another great drone video of Compiano and the castle in winter you can scroll down to view).

Link in my bio to a full video tour ... you kinda need to see this place to believe it.

If you're looking for a unique experience in Northern Italy, check out Compiano, which is an historic medieval town high up on a ridge that has a castle that dates back to the 800's that has been turned into a fantastic boutique, luxury hotel. They even have a beautiful pool and in the summer months they through a massive party every weekend unlike any other.

Had such a great day out visiting compiano castle. The drive up towards the castle from Parma was exhilirating to say the least. Tried to follow the Taro route. Not too much to see at compiano castle but good vistas and interesting history.

Alliances, fraudulent but reassuring in their transience.

I watched the clouds disintegrate and re-integrate amid whorls of squawking. It jolted me out of my reverie.

Undue deviance, untamed historicity.

We were lucky enough to have our wedding at Castello di Compiano recently and it was an incredible experience. We had over a one hundred guests, with guests staying at the castle and also at Borgo Casale.
Everyone was more than satisfied with the experience. The staff was incredible and always took care of us. The food and wine exceeded our expectations. The Panagacheria located in the hotel was one of the best restaurants you'll find in the region, the Steak Florentine was the best I've ever had.
The staff at the castle paid so much attention to detail- everything from freshly planted flowers to making sure the wedding went smoothly. Really a beautiful place to get married! I would recommend any couples interested in getting married in Italy to get married here.

I would recommend the Castello di Compiano whether its for a weekend stay, or for your wedding.

I had booked half a year in advance with a large group of friends. I had the confirmation and mail exchange. When we arrived the rooms where already taken.

We ehre given no explanation, the manager was not present and would call us when back, in a week's time.

We where advised to go to a nearby 3-star hotel. Quite a deception from the expectations of sleeping in a castle.

In June I agreed on a price for two nights for three groups of 60 people. I confirmed this again in September.

Late October i heard that for one of the groups. They had just accepted a large party of Americans coming for their wedding.

Obviously the management has made an error. Logically, the first booking prevails. But this is not obvious at Castello di Compiano.

Since we have the oldest booking, we will just be showing up and seeing how they solve it. Might be a messy wedding for the Americans end of May.

We had a somewhat odd experience at Compiano. We arrived at 17:45, plenty early for the last guided tour at 18:30. When we walked into the reception area there was nobody there. So we walked around in the castle looking for someone. Not a soul, not even in the restaurant which was closed. Now we were really puzzled as there is a Relais hotel in the rooms on the top floor of the castle. Then we walked down the hill into the charming village. It was like being in a ghost town. We were about to leave when I thought to go back to the reception desk at the castle. There was a rude woman at the desk who seemed annoyed that we were there. She did not to speak English, but I was able to gather that there would be a guide at 18:30. Anyway, there is a happy ending. The guide was a young man who spoke very good English (he is going to London for a year to study to become a translator). He gave us an excellent tour. Compiano wouldn't be to everyone's taste as it was redone by a wealthy countess between the 1960s and her death in 1987. So it is not historically correct, but she had fantastic collections from her world travels. I'm sure she had family money, but she also was an architect. One of her clients was Eva Perone in Argentina. The most unusual collection was three rooms of Free Mason's memorabilia. The collection was remarkable even though I have no particular interest in the Masonic orders. Our guide spent way more time with us than is usual, so I gave him a nice tip and told him to buy himself several pints when he gets to London.
