The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Sinhua Area
This is the area crucial for the Siraya culture in Tainan, and also the buffer zone from the plains into the mountains. It houses the first dam, Hutoupi Reservoir, in Taiwan. The reservoir with the view entitled “Hutoupi’s Reflecting Moon” is listed as one of the 12 tourist attractions in Taiwan. A complete bikeway and pedestrian paths have appealed to many people for jogging. Sinhua Old Street that has still preserved the baroque style is the busiest shopping district. It covers significant historic buildings such as Japanese Butokuden (hall of martial arts) and the old district office during the Japanese rule and many shops that sell delicacies and so on. For those who crave to shop on the old street, this is the place for you. The Old Tainan Watercourse and purification plant in the mountains are another two historic buildings with unique attributes. The environment surrounding headwaters is well-maintained, so the purification plant that looks like a European castle has been inhabited by thousands of bats, and this is the best place for ecological protection learning. Since Danei is also referred to as the Stars of Heaven, it is equipped with astronomy telescopes with the largest calibre in Taiwan. It also has a panoramic auditorium theatre as well as an experience showroom, which enables astronomy learning and entertainment into one. Want to experience what it feels like to be an astronaut? I did not do any research on this place. It was a big disappointment. It was nothing more than a bus stop with two figurines. Not worth a visit in my opinion.

A place with cartoon painting on the wall. Far away from down town and not much special to see. Not recommend unless you are a super Totoro fans.
