Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful spot to see the sun go down
Crystal clear waters for a swim, lots of steps down but so worthwhile

Spectacular scene. Protected harbor and deep clear blue water. Good snorkeling. By foot it is a very long steep walk to get to the tiny “beach”. At the bottom is a tiny stand selling something to drink. Parking at the top is very limited. Hug you have mobility issues, don’t go on foot.

We visited by boat from Lipari and this was one of the points of interest we visited. This is one of the places we stopped to swim. Our captain explained that the area was a caldera, a crater of a volcano.

Today there is just a small area left, where one can go for a swim in Pollara. Steps lead down to some fishermen's huts built of lava and there are some flat rocks for sunbathing. Hardly anybody was in the water in mid-May, but divers came out of the sea in their wetsuits, when I visited. I also walked down another path, which once lead to a sandy beach, which is gone and access is now off limits. There are just some high vertical cliffs nearby.
In 1994, the year of the movie 'Il Postino' the beach still existed, now all there is to see from the movie is the path, where the postman walked up with his bicycle to deliver the mail to the poet (Pablo Neruda, played by Philippe Noiret). Also the poet's house still exist on the outskirts of the village. Since it is privately owned, visits are not encouraged, but in May nobody was around and access was no problem.
'Il Postino' has been one of my best loved movies, so Pollara was for me the number one place to visit on Salina. A few years before I had been to the fishermen's tavern on the island of Procida, the movie's other location, where the superb actor Massimo Troisi, the postman, met the lovely waitress Beatrice, played by Maria Grazia Cucinotta.

An unspoilt place, easy staircase winds downhill to enigmatic spot with old stone built fisherman’s huts built on to lava caves. The location for award winning film ‘Il Postino’. Fantastic sunsets, swimming and snorkelling. Sea cliff arch just around the corner (swim out and right). DON’T hire a car - snap the bus timetable and use public transport. Take your time. Delightful!

Beautiful area very scenic with the caper farm nearby. It was bit cool when we were there but would be beautiful to swim in the summer months

If you look for a special place during your holidays you surely must go to Aeolian islands. All have their specials and unique beauty.
Salina is the one that offers different cuts of experience. In Salina a.must see is Pollara bay. It was formed by the collapse of one.of the 6 craters. Great atmosphere and great swims. Not to say about the best sunsets in all of the aeolians as the bay faces full North west.
Stop at bar l oasi for a drink. A very simple place but full of sense

Probably the nicest spot in Salina with spectacular vertical high cliffs, shaped by volcanic flows and centuries of wear and tear. The water is amazingly turquoise crystal clear and the cove and hill was the setting of the film Il Postino. No visit to Salina Island is complete with going there. A must see

We visited a capers farm, called Sapori Eoliani, in the beautiful town of Pollara. It really is a gem of a place where you can purchase fresh capers from the place where they are produced. The staff there is super friendly and the costs are very reasonable.
