A distanza di quattro anni sono tornato per un rapido passaggio a Monsampolo, sul cui abitato svetta ben visibile l'imponente parrocchiale cinquecentesca intitolata all'Assunta.
La chiesa è sicuramente tra le cose da vedere visitando il paese, soprattutto per alcune opere d'arte che custodisce all'interno.

Costruita nel tardo Cinquecento e ampiamente rimaneggiata due secoli dopo questa grande chiesa in laterizio si distingue, più che per le forme architettoniche, per alcune notevoli opere d'arte che custodisce al suo interno - tra cui tele dipinte, sculture lignee e una croce astile di alta oreficeria - e che andrebbero valorizzate adeguatamente.

Trasformato il paese in borgo con la chiusura tutti i servizi, anche la chiesa madre si è trasformata in una semplice cappella annessa ad altro edificio sacro di alcuna valenza architettonica.

Imponente e visibile a grande distanza la parrocchiale di Monsampolo, intitolata a Maria Ss. Assunta, colpisce non solo per la sua mole ma anche per il bel portale, vari particolari e alcune pregevoli opere d'arte presenti all'interno, tra cui il grande Crocifisso ligneo del Quattro-Cinquecento, la cinquecentesca croce astile in argento con piccole sculture realizzate nel secolo precedente dall'orafo ascolano Pietro Vannini, la stupenda pala d'altare di Pietro Gaja raffigurante l'Ultima Cena, le altre bellissime tele dipinte a cavallo tra Cinque e Seicento dallo stesso Pietro Gaja, da Giovanni Battista e Francesco Ragazzini e da Alessandro Vitali, allievo di Federico Barocci.
Meta imprescindibile nella visita al paese.

La chiesa parrocchiale di Maria Ss. Assunta è un imponente edificio in mattoni a vista costruito tra il 1572 e il 1577 da maestri lombardi. Il suo aspetto attuale è tuttavia dovuto a radicali modifiche apportate in epoche successive, in particolare a lavori di ampliamento e all'erezione del campanile, entrambi realizzati a cavallo tra Sette e Ottocento.
L'interno, a navata unica con abside, si richiama al gusto barocco e custodisce alcune pregevoli opere d'arte, tra cui un Crocifisso e una Pietà - entrambe sculture di fine Quattrocento in legno policromo, varie tele di Pietro Gaja e Giovanni Battista Ragazzini eseguite tra 1583 e 1616, e infine una preziosa croce astile in argento della stessa epoca.
Suggestiva e ben tenuta la sottostante cripta, oggi adibita a museo delle mummie.
