Airport MRT or Metros are a mass public transport meant to serve huge volumes of passengers. Therefore one should "expect" crowded trains ( esp weekends, peak hours), no seats, long waits at times, etc. It's very normal. Don't expect the "comfort" or convenience of a taxi as one is paying very low fares. In our opinion, Taoyuan Airport MRT is very good. Clean, modern ( not dated definitely), comfortable, efficient & inexpensive. We have taken Airport MRTs all over the world & definitely this one ranks among the best.

Taoyuan Int Airport MRT is a very convenient option to and fro the airport from the city. It is relatively cheap compared to other 'airport express train' in other countries. The signages were helpful, we never had the need to stop and search for the station maps.

I am well aware TPE is no Changi. I was prepared for that- what greeted me (Terminal 01) was an airport right out of 1970's blockbuster- very dated, cramped and lacking in services.
Check in area was a shocker; our group flew Oneworld member airline and counter was not open until 3 hours before departure. As our group was early, there was hardly any seats, so our group was scattered across departure and arrival hall in just to wait for the counter to open.
Our boarding gate changed last minute- announcements was nearly non-existent, we made it on time, because I was the first to notice of the changes, needless to say, our flight was delayed to accommodate frazzled passengers.
I was very fortunate to fly Business, so Premium Plaza @ Terminal 01 was a welcome respite with plenty of light meals at ones disposal. For those without premium access, the variety on offer was poor, worst still very cramp. Signage equally poor- one does not know if any restaurants are further down the long terminal- exploration only yield further disappointment. My advice to all passengers flying Economy, have your meals in the city, or accommodation; once you step into T1, expect limited services, choices and very poorly executed public seating areas.
Verdict: If you love 70's architecture, TPE is your heaven, otherwise, avoid it at all costs.
Score: 36/100
Salvageable moments: Airport staff are friendly, they are willing to assist passengers but language can be a hurdle.

I feel sorry for Taipei. If this is all they can do for an international airport that gives people a taste of what their country is like. It is the most deplorable Third World experience I have had in a whole. Imagine dozens of planes, long-haul landing at 5 o’clock in the morning with an average wait time of 2 to 3 hours in the airport. No shops are open the largest don’t open till seven and there’s not enough seats to see people people are sneezing all over each other there’s no room to move. I am forced to stand after a 13 hour flight in a horrible premium economy seat. This is the worst airport ever. It’s not hygienic because people are on top of each other. It’s not clean because there are too many people and they don’t give any consideration to the fact that there are hundreds of people every morning waiting in uncomfortable areas where there’s not enough seats for people and they don’t have any restaurants open not a single lounge is open. This is Third World perhaps they would be better if China took over at least the airports in China a fabulous. Shame on you take pay for making people suffer three hours and you’re horrible airport.

Very efficient and easy mode to travel from Taoyuan International Airport to the Taipei city centre. I got the easy card at the airport and it was easy to visit other places with this card.

Like most reviewers have said, this is efficient, cheap and easy to use. Can't get better than this! Stops at both terminals 1 and 2. Try and get the Express which is much faster. Connect from the airport to Taipei Main Station MRT and then you can use the normal MRT to get to your hotel or wherever you need to go. Taipei Main Station is huge. When you leave, give yourself enough time to get there. Easy to purchase a ticket at the counter or via the automated machines. Note that the ticket is like a small token like coin which is easy to loose so keep it safe. Stations are luggage friendly so don't worry. There are ramps and lifts as well as escalators. The Airport MRT has complimentary WIFI. There is air conditioning on the train but it wasn't too powerful. There are not many seats so you are likely to have to stand if you arrive just as the train departs. Trains are super punctual. Don't bother running for one, if you are running late unless you think you can make it! I am not sure on frequency but they appear to depart regularly. I never had to wait for one. The Express train took around thirty five minutes from Taipei Main Station MRT to Terminal 1. Terminal 2 is after that so it will be slightly longer. You don't need to book in advance. Just purchase upon arrival.

The airport is connected to the rail station so it's easy to transport from the MRT Airport station to Taipei Central staion. I love how easy to understand the instructions in their stations so it's very helpful for tourist.

It's not a big airport, but it's clean and friendly, no matter when you are there. You can buy cellphone sim card before you are out of terminal, it's cheap. Take MRT out of airport to city is so convenient.

Hi guys, I have a 14-hour layover at Taipei from 9:30pm Friday to 12:30pm Saturday. Do I have enough time to visit a night market? Should I take the express train or taxi? I plan to rent a hostel near the Main Station to stay overnight.
For the next morning, where should I visit? Can you recommend me any restaurant or local food I should try?
Thank you for your suggestions.

Some night markets near main station. Airport MRT leaves you at Main Station. Saturday morning you also can check in at Main Station airport MRT, depending on airline you will continue your flight with. Taxi from airport to Main Station takes minimum 40 minutes and costs 1200 Taiwan Dollars.
I am flying bangkok to san Francisco with a connection at taipei. Will the taiwan travel ban effect transit passengers

I'm sorry I don't know about transit passengers, I suggest you contact your airline directly. . My sources in Taiwan have told me that Taiwan will be closed to all non-citizens. Common sense would suggest that this would not apply to transit passengers, but you never know.

Check with your airline but you shouldn't need to go through immigration unless you're actually exiting the airport

30 years ago, China Airlines would take your passport and put you up in a hotel for the night, as part of your fare. Those days are long gone. There are a couple of hotels within two or three miles, but do you really want to schlepp through customs, shuttle to a hotel and be back at 0400 am for your flight? Lounge privileges generally do not come with premium economy. I think you are going to have to suck it up. Load a couple of movies on you laptop, and check for better connections next time. Sometimes splitting up your flight (stay two or three days in Taiwan) is not that much more.

I am in transit for a few hours. Are there showers for economy class passengers? Is there a lounge and how much is fee please? Maybe a massage?

There are free showers in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of the airport. Although they are free and available 24 hrs, there's a time limit.
Massage services are offered from visually impaired people at certain hours of the day. Check the airport website for details.
Lounges exist. There's a free no-frills lounge in the fourth floor of Terminal 1 that may be tricky for some to find. Fee-based lounges cost at least US$30.
